Dont tie the bag. Oil biodegradation is an aerobic process that requires a lot of oxygen, nitrogen and phosphorus. The soil, as long as it has plenty of plants matter, will provide all the nitrogen and phosphorus needed, but this process needs oxygen.

@TheRabidfan2 жыл бұрын
@@microska2656 incorporate some kind of aeration system as well as some environmental bacteria which could easily be found in horse or cow dung. Mix it in with the contaminated medium and figure out a way to aerate, whether that is by tossing the medium a bit periodically or even running some air lines to the bottom of the dirt with something like a fishtank air pump. This process will slowly turn the hydrocarbons into quite decent fertilizer, actually, but dont expect lightning fast results.

Fat is not suitable to be used as fertilizer. It mainly contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, whereas the main macronutrients needed in fertilizer are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

It's being rendered down by the microbes in the soil; much as in a hot compost pile, and I do add grease, meat, dairy, oils and all the other "forbidden" items into my hot compost. It works fine. This is not the same as dumping used oil directly onto your plants, which WILL kill them.
Thank you, for a great tutorial. Can you use expired all purpose baking flour instead ?

Soil bacteria and worms will consume most of what's put on or in the soil . The decomposition would take a bit longer in colder climates - when young my family were in a town which got snowed in every year , and we had to have a garden + orchard , for our use & to exchange with neighbours .
