Just began watching. Having studied evolutionary biology taught by the #1 scientist in the field, ultimately, as David admits, anti aging is about minimizing the cycles in the mitochondria by various means, and the one we are most in control of, and at the least cost is reducing meals. Fasting, which most fat Americans never do, provides huge payoffs. And the more often is better. One thing we can all do is eat only one meal per day. And if you don’t have it, due to whatever busyness, is even better, of course. Folks, stay busy. And a bit hungry, if you want to live longer. Cheers 🥂

I agree and would add that I think that calorie restriction still remains our most effective weapon against aging, at least to stretch out our healthspan... But I believe that most of the effects of CR on aging can be attributed to slowing metabolism and slowing the rate of cellular division. With each division, DNA repair mechanisms ultimately fail to correct some errors and over time, the DNA sequence is ravaged by mutations -- noise, genomic entropy. Telomeres exist to put a limit on the division of cells with low integrity genomes to forestall cancer formation and shortened telomeres ultimately cause such cells to apoptose or senesce as a programmed response. In the long run, stem cell availability is thus hindered and tissues are not adequately replaced. Additionally, noise forms within cells that remain due to protein misfolding and other entropic effects of a mutated and epigenetically modified genome. For these reasons, CR ultimately fails to indefinitely extend our lives.
