Yeah in the manual they mention it real quick with the number sequence. Your hack is way better.

So I'm confused. So number 1 jaw is supposed too go with numberr one slot but what if the sequence of the teeth do not.match the numbers via the slots?

In the normal position the numbers on the jaws should match the numbers on the chuck. No need to worry about the teeth spacing/sequence. In the reversed position ignore the numbers as they won't match. Identify the teeth spacing as shown and insert them in order.

@@machinist_matt thank you my brain was fried like a bad perm. I honestly thought for a minute I was going crazy. I never think outside the box it's always adjacent or perpendicular or hell even just insides sometimes 😅😁 I now have it together and I am now turning and facing a plug for my stripped mounting plate. U the best.

If it has become stuck I would disassemble the tailstock and push it out from the rear of the barrel. 🙂
