Takes 4 AA batteries. Make sure to use lithium as they hold up better in the elements and are less likely to corrode.

Can you change out the discharge hose to a longer hose?

That's a great idea! I bet you could cut the hose and use a connector and some hose clamps to add another, longer hose.
