With 2021 now only days away, many people will be looking to transition careers. A good way to kick this job hunt off if by getting qualified in different areas to try and secure a job in a new industry. One popular career change we see is individuals becoming Mortgage Advisors. To do this you have to undertake the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP) to be able to provide advice. I have the 2019/20 book and i'll be sitting cemap 1 exam soon ive read the book front to back and was wondering topic 1 to 16 are referenced as unit 1 with topics 17 to 25 as unit 2 . This maybe a silly question but do i have to only focus on topics 1 to 16 for the cemap 1 exam ?

So Cemap 1 consists of it being broken down into 2 units- units 1 and 2. Unit 1 is from 1-16 and Unit 2 being from 17-25. You’ll need to revise both as you get 1hr on each unit.

Hi, the LIBF is a great option, but there are benefits to using their accredited providers, so which you think is best for yourself. If you are confident then you might not need the additional materials, however if they make it easier for you to learn then don't be afraid to use them

A crash course can help speed up the processing of obtaining CeMAP 1, as some have the exam on the final day. It will be information overload potentially, so will need to be sure you can retain the information.

I am studying the course with the knowledge academy and I received the Cemap 1 book from Libf. I noticed that the book has MUCH more content compared to the site I’m studying with. Is the content in the book necessary to read through or is it okay if I stick with the Cemap powerpoints provided by the the knowledge academy?

Hi Esther, the book will always provide the most information as it covers everything and anything you need to know. I haven't see the powerpoints, so not best placed to answer. I would suggest you reach out to the LIBF directly, as I wouldn't want to misinform you. Ryan

Hi Amy, No there won’t be, unless otherwise stated by the LIBF. Where Mortgage Advice is mainly done in the UK regulations have not changed much due to Brexit. Things like GDPR aren’t affected due to the UK's The Data Protection Act (2018). Any changes will be included in the LIBF textbooks. I find what works best is writing key notes whilst reading along however this is very time consuming. I have less than 3 weeks until my exam and I’m only on topic 8/25 in the book. Would you recommend just reading the book then making notes from the questions after?

Hi There, Apologies for the late response - this really depends on your learning style. What I would do personally is scan the book instead of trying to retain the information word for word and from there make flash cards on the key information for each topics. From here you can test yourself and focus on the stuff you don't know as well. If you've got left over time afterwards then by all means read the book but where you have less than 2 weeks at this point I would be just making sure I've covered all the material. I’ve done Cemap 1 passed the first test but failed the second so have to resit the second one. The mock exams I was getting 90%+ on but got 70% and 62% on the test and felt the questions on the exam was a lot different to those in the mock exams.

Hi There, The CeMAP Revision Tool is a great way to help your study as it can simulate what the CeMAP exam can look like whilst giving you access to the mock exams (specimen papers). So we definitely think it's worth it if you are in a position to go ahead with it although it is worth mentioning that you don't have to go with it. Hi Ahmed, It looks like the price of the unit has risen to £190 since we made this video, so for £190 you get: Study texts which are provided online and in hard copy for Modules 1 and 2. Module 3 doesn’t have a study text, but you’ll find an information booklet and a free synoptic paper on the course website. You’ll also get access to: a student-led discussion forum study tip videos a weekly study planner a tax table syllabus updates online access to their student portal MyLIBF online access to their virtual library KnowledgeBank You will be learning on their new VLE Brightspace Hope this helps. Hi Slanzie, We have just spoken to the LIBF for you to clarify, they said "If you order the revision tool, each module has around 300 practice questions which you can complete in a random order, these are not questions that are in the actual exams but just similar (eg might have different wording) and then you can do the practice exams knowledge and topic testing at the end of the practice questions" so no mock exams as such but more mock questions. - Taylor

Hey brill video- Thanks for sharing. I was wondering if there’s any tips u can give me as I’m struggling with passing CEMAP 1 unit 1 (I’ve padded unit2). So last week I took my CEMAP 1 exam, I passed unit 2 however failed unit 1 by 1mark! Today I’ve taken unit 1 again & failed it by 4 marks- todays exam seemed so much harder & the wording in the exam threw me. I don’t come from a banking or financial background at all (I’m a qualified beauty therapist- working on & off) I’ve been a stay at home mum raising my children & now they’re all at school decided so re study. I seem to pass all the topic tests & even all the LIBF mock papers with distinctions so it’s just so frustrating & annoying I’m failing the actual exam - not to mention the £160 resit fee for 1 unit each time. Any help with Unit 1 would be amazing as I’m getting to the point of giving up at this rate. Thankyou.

Thankyou for getting back to me. I’m thinking of taking my resit exam next week 🤞🏽 I pass this time. I actually did my course through Simply Academy which really helped me understand all the topics. However as im passing all the mocks & topic tests there’s no other help. I’m still going over each topic esp the ones that are heavily tested & doing daily tests.

Hi Jack, fair question to ask! However, they have put measures in place to ensure undertaking the exam remotely remains fair. They will record the exam via two different cameras, typically your webcam and your mobile, to give two different angles. A colleague recently took a remote exam (not through LIBF) and they used a similar setup

My apologies! Typically, the pass mark for each unit is 70%, so you must pass each unit successfully. You can resit just the unit you failed on

Hi Akbar, it depends on your learning style. I would suggest you read as much of the material as possible, to help build your knowledge for the exam and when applying it in your role (if appropriate).
