editing is honestly one of my favorite parts of the process hehe just being able to fiddle with words and with story is so satisfying 😊 (also it's so funny to think of writing experience as a child and that mine is not only fully grown but officially an adult LOL)
@lynndjung2 ай бұрын
me too!! there's something so... satisfying about that first self edit too, like spending time with something so intimate to me before sending it out into the world.

Thank you so much, I’m almost done with my first draft and very excited to begin the editing process! You have been encouraging me since the book before this one, and now I’m editing for the first time! Thank you so much!

14:23 Lololololol Mooooood. I've been having those a lot lately. Time really is such a fleeting thing. Hard not to feel the ephemerality of it all. There was one point that you lightly touched on that I think a lot of creatives could really stand to internalize, which is that "different" isn't always better. Change purely for the sake of change is often at best ineffective, and can be at worst outright harmful to the process. Adding all sorts of unnecessary time. But yeah, I greatly enjoyed this video, and this was perfectly timed. I had taken a bit of a break from working on my main project (as in actually writing it, and not just structuring a bunch of things in the background) to let things in life settle down, and well...things are about as settled as they're going to be, I do suppose, so I'm refocusing and getting things back into gear. Might as well dust off that old Scrintal subscription that I have and really use it. (Thanks for the visual references, btw, they were greatly appreciated.)

100% agree. There are a few times where I've found myself caught in the loop of endless tweaks and adjustments and even full-on overhauls, without even realizing I was essentially going in circles for years on end. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope your creative break was restful, even if things aren't fully settled. Thank you for watching!

Thank you Lynn. Im a pantser and just finished my 2nd draft only to realise how draft 1 and draft 2 are totally different stories.

Sorry it took me so long to comment again! This video is so helpful, even as a hardcore pantser. I know for my PhD dissertation novel (Adult contemporary fantasy), I definitely did some minor outlining for later drafts (like bullet points) and I found it useful. I think for my current novel (YA gothic horror-still a first draft), I’m going to pants the draft, but then go back into more detail for future drafts. The thing about adapting my own work into novels (from pilot scripts) is I already have a basic idea of the characters and plot and some of the early twists. I guess the script is like having an outline. But I might rewatch this video when I write future drafts of CM. Thank you, Lynn, as always! I LOVE dark academia! That’s my next novel idea after the one I’m currently drafting. 🥰

No worries Lara, it's a busy time of year! I'm so glad you found this video helpful. It's still so cool to me that you adapt scripts into novels, that is such a unique process! How developed are your scripts usually? Ty for watching

Editing is honestly a never ending... I'm figuring out a lot of the world of my book through writing the sequal ( Crescent dark), and realize I need to rewrite book one (Nightwalkers) again. Good luck to everyone in the editing stage. :)

you have no idea how much i needed this! im drafting a story ive partially pantsed (i have no idea if i planned too little or too much) and im having a little trouble getting through this, but finishing and editing is a huge motivator!

I'm in the trenches of editing right now, specifically a few chapters that have an unconventional structure. I found that in this last week, re-reading one of my old favorites has helped. I've taken some chapters or scenes, broken them down by paragraphs, and just paid attention to how much time the author spent on certain ideas, emotional beats, establishing setting/mood, etc. It's restored my faith in what I'm doing.
@julianmaylettАй бұрын
Good luck with the editing then ☺️🙏

I love this video. It is really helpful as I near finishing my manuscript. That app looks sort of interesting. I'm trying out Scrivener right now but I'll consider that one. Are you part of a beta-reader group of some kind? I am always looking for more beta-readers or critique partners and don't know where else to look.

Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope your writing has been going well! I am not part of a beta reader group, but I've found beta readers through social media in the past. I believed Reddit also has robust forums for connecting readers if you're more inclined toward anonymity!
@davidwooldridge4079Ай бұрын
@lynndjung I don't care about anonymity. I just want critique partners and beta readers that share my level of skill or exceed it.
