How to revive a LiPo Battery from below 3.00v / cell

Part of the reason you are not supposed to discharge below 3 volts is because copper ions start to form from the copper current collector from the anode. Those copper ions can deposit anywhere, the cathode, anode, current collector etc and generally lower capacity, increase internal resistance, can cause electrolyte degradation and puffing.

A puffed battery are not always faulty, it can be just the shrinktube around the battery that had too much sun, that can puff the shrinktube.

I had one cell which went under 2V.I just pulled it in and after I came back IT WAS FULL there wasn’t any signs of damage and I’m lucky thst it survived

Sounds like this battery is too far gone. When the voltage gets that low its past the point you can save it.

I bought an rtr rc car and the 3s battery it came with the car was DOA. My charger refused to charge it and it kept showing it as 1s. Somehow I managed to make the charger see it as 3s but now two cells get stuck around 3.6 volts while the good cell is at 4.2v. Help!

2 Options. Try charging your LiPo at a very slow rate so that it can balance charge the 2 cells that are weak on voltage. Otherwise place the pack on the charge and just on balance mode to see if it can discharge the good cell down. Once it comes down, try and charge again. You should never measure an increase in temperature from any of the cells while performing these steps.

i have a 3 cell 3300 mah 35c 11.1 v lipo battery.. my second is totally discharged and shows 0v so can i charge that single cell with a B3 imax rc charger? or how should i recover the dead battery cell , i only have the B3 imax rc charger with me.

I purchased a brand new battery and I received it. The battery was extremely unbalanced. It's an 11.1v 1200mAh 30c lipo battery with the matching smart balancing lipo charger. The battery has 3 cells in total and when checking the battery health on my capacity controller, two cells where sitting at about 75% and the third was at 0.1v yes 0.1v. Now after attempting to plug it in and hopefully the smart balancing charger could revive it but I was just getting an error and no charge. After I used my NiMH to get some life in it for a minute charging, it is now charging under a Lipo charge but it's taking so long. I had it changing for about five hour's and now cell three has reached 31%. I'm very close by and watching it every few minutes here and there touching it for heat or swelling and nothing. I really could use some help please! Is it best to just throw it out safety or should it be ok because it is brand new?

I did forget to mention the battery is very solid and ferm with no damage at all. Everything is perfect and brand new right from Valken Airsoft company. Also the other two cells hit 98% as the one cell is trying to charge

If the cell was at around 0.00v, you may not know how long it's been at this voltage. Generally a deeply discharged cell has very little hope of being revived. If you stopped the charge around 30% and the cell dropped under 3.00v again after 8 hours or so, this is a sign that it may be permanently damaged to the point where you can't revive.

Why do you disconnect it from the charger? Was it full? If so there is something very wrong with your charger and or battery.

Hi my name is Bill , I watched your video and it really sounded like you knew what you were talking about , so I have a question for you I have a drone it's a CSJ 167, I've had it for about a year , it's really and easy to fly , my problem is it's been sitting for about 4 month tonight I broke it out and was going change on of the motors out but when i plugged the battery in to check if it needed a charge plug green light just blinks it doesn't go to a steady green indicating that it's charging an I got the same results with the other 2 batteries is it possible that all 3 batteries went bad? There's no leads coming off the battery so I'm not sure how to check how much voltage is in it on the plug in how do I know which is positive and which is negative

Hi Bill, your battery is a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo battery. You will need to be able to get a multimeter on the individual cells. Most multimeters can measure negative voltage, meaning knowing positive and negative is not necessary.

Your charger should be able to charge the pack up if it sees 3.4v for each cell. Make sure that it sees all the cells and there is no issue with you connector.

There is more than likely some very significant permanent damage to those cells. I wouldn't bother, it could be quite dangerous.

Hi, I shorted the cables of a 3S 950mAh lipo by accident for a very short moment, a few sparks maybe and I dropped it to the ground :-) Now my charger sees only one cell in that battery. What might have caused that, the short or the drop?

I would not expect cells to dissappear on you like that. Did part of the connector melt?

@@RCexplained it happend while I was removing the old connector, whichvwas OK. The cables touched for a moment and I dropped the pack. Then I soldered a XT30 connector. Now the balance plug shows 1S with 3.1V and on the output is no voltage at all.

My battery is weird it is a newer lippo battery there is no charger for it it's just a cable that plugs in via USB and you plug it into the USB I've charged it for a couple days at a time and nothing happened and I'm looking for a way that I can get my battery up and running as to I cannot find replacement batteries on the internet

I'm not familiar with that model. Is it possible to swap connectors on the battery ? Add a jst tap and standard connectors for the battery and drone?

@@RCexplained not that I know of my battery has a red tip which goes into the Drone and a white tip which goes into the charger the white tip has a black red and white cord and the red tip just has a red and black cord nothing is removable on the Drone battery it is a black plastic box with blue lining on the inside

I'm afraid I don't think I can help. It's tough to deal with the battery situation as you are locked in to that setup unless you can change it.

No it will not be a function. This is dangerous and needs to be done with extreme care monitoring the battery the entire time.
