Regardless, calling it ricochet is misleading because it's not ricochet. :)

Nope, according to the original french bow school, Sautillé is an unslured stroke, up and down, in which the hair never leaves the strings while the stick is bouncing. Any stroke in which notes are slurred but sound staccato is called ricochet!

@@TejasM14 nah, he knew what he was saying, he meant it as in oppose to playing with the hair's egde, so basically if you imagine a short line connecting the stick and the hair its supposed to be vertical to the strings
