Eric, another recommendation for learning to kickturn transitions is to learn to do a 360 on flat ground frontside and backside. The feeling of making a full revolution really helps when doing a simple 180 on transitions.. Great video for kids to get the fundamentals!

eric, bro. you're awesome. i'm 22 years old and just getting back into vert skating for the first time in over 10 years. your videos capture progress from a different angle than all the pro and amateur videos on youtube. really helped me get back into it before jumping back in the pool. and if i can be an inspiration to any younger skaters: i stopped skating when i was 10 because the 8 and 9 year old kids who were just starting were better than me. for some reason it was so disheartening that i stopped. if you ever feel like skill is interfering with your passion, look up Lance Mountain. loving skating is enough. you don't need to be the best

For knee and elbow pads, check out: ProDesigned PainCheaters 187 ProTec DropIns (other ProTec pads are not very good, but "DropIns" are great) Helmets (get something certified to BOTH the CPSC and ASTM safety standard): ProTec (only ones with SXP foam) Bell Faction POC Sports (I have a review of a great one on the "Skateboarding California" website) Hope that helps.

Just ride your board and enjoy your skating, dont focus too much on trying to get better, that will come naturally the more you skate. Of course try new tricks, but when it gets boring or you keep hurting yourself, ask yourself ''Is this fun'' whenever the answer is no. Go do the stuff you enjoy. Remember your doing this coz you like skating getting all anxious about how good you are will spoil that if you let it. Vids like this are great for pointing you in the right direction...eeeeaaasy man.

This is really helpful but having a trainer teach you at a park feels kinda wrong to me. We used to teach each other new tricks and techniques. After all skating was still a rebellious thing to do in a small town, not something your parents send you out to learn as if it was music school.

Elaisha2000 - Personally, I like wheels that are about 97a or 98a. Most skaters like even harder wheels for skateparks. You can learn more about wheels in What Are The Parts Of A Skateboard? (Episode 1 of 2)

@Irtehrocker - Depends on what you're trying to do. If you are riding a halfpipe, you usually want tighter trucks. If you are learning to carve bowls/pools/snakeruns, you want looser. I typically say - ride them as loose as you can without getting speed wobbles. Just bring a skatetool with you and experiment. Good luck!

First off...LOVE THE POOL VIDEOS. Now, to my question. I STOPPED skating back in 1991 and I am now approaching 40. I started skating again about a month ago in order to get my 4 year-old into it. The problem is that sooooo many things have changed over the years that I am at a loss as to which equipment is best. I cannot find Rector knee/elbow pads... What is a good quality brand for knee/elbow pads for adults...and how about an idea for helmets too???

No, it's not because the more you skate the less you fall. So if you wear protection during the period that you fall the most you will spend more time on your board and less time you will spend recovering from injury. Obviously you wouldn't do knee slides without knee protection.

@juanolandez - Nope. There is nothing "right" or "wrong" about being goofy or regular. Either one is fine. Just like surfing and snowboarding - just stand the way which feels the most comfortable. Some people even teach themselves to stand both ways.
@LearnToSkateboard12 жыл бұрын
Of course you can! Jeff Grosso is a professional skater. He's 43 years old, 6' tall and 220 lbs. He's a huge older dude. Massive fella. He skates like a beast. I don't know your height or weight, but you're probably younger and smaller than him.
@LearnToSkateboard11 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. Tic-tacs tend to be just as hard to learn either way - moving or stationary. The real point is learning proper board control, so work on them whichever way you feel more comfortable.

You don't know what is best for you until you try a lot of different boards. For example, I rode boards with 15" to 16" wheelbases for years. Then I moved up to 16.5" or 17" and I was way more comfortable. I could skate a lot better on a bigger deck. I never learned that until I started to experiment and try different sizes.
