It's also a good idea to add a bead between the sinker and the swivel. Keeps the swivel from getting jammed in the soft lead of the weight. Tight lines. 👍

Was there a this weekend all I kept getting was that damn dolphin eating all my s*** puts up a good fight though for about 10-15 seconds and then the bait just comes off the hook

I went yesterday stayed there from 5pm to 530am trying to catch them damn groupers. 6 diferent times I hooked on to a grouper and all 6 times they snapped my line. it snapped my 80 pound line and my 40 pound line. Ended up with only one 12 inch mangrove. I was very disappointed.

I hardly ever hook more than 2! 6 is impressive! There are some monster gags out there, and some small goliath grouper also. Even with heavy gear, some will be lost.

Never use a swivel or a weight . Free line a live pinfish or a grunt you will increase your odds greatly , hit the rock piles. 80lb floro to braid

Do people catch groupers at skyway in august/september? Most of the grouper videos I see are june/july. Or is it closed season for groupers after july?
@CoastalTidesOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Gag grouper is open from July to December. A lot of grouper push into shallow water during the winter. But they are still out there

What pound test line do you suggest?
@CoastalTidesOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
50# for the main line, minimum of 50 for the leader. I usually use 50-80# for the leader. I have seen grouper landed on less than that, but sometimes is good to beef it up to at least 50#.

What size hook?
@CoastalTidesOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Depending on the bait size, 5-9 size circle hooks.

Why do you add weight vs free line?
@CoastalTidesOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I add weight because I prefer to keep baits in one spot, when I free line baits I typically get hung up on structure more, so I don't free line much.

So someone sent me a link to this video, and I watched it because they wanted to know if this would be a good way to teach Gag Grouper. I'd have to say no. The reason , as I told them, is if you're casting your bait out, that sinker is highly likely to ride back down to the main line at cast. A Knocker Rig or Free line would be a better choice. However, the problem with free lining is if your bait is staying at the top and its daytime birds might try and take your bait and your rod and reel.

Come on man you got to go 80 braid or 100 and 80 lb. mono I catch them out on the rocks most of the time if flipper isn't around Good video keep up the good work I might see you out there some day
