I would like to have seen you grind that coffee and brew it, then drink a cup.

Same. What's even worse is that I've got a couple pounds of green beans coming in the mail. I really wish I had them now, I'd go out into the garage and roast up a batch.

Great video, highly informative, I would suggest the bushcrafters practice these skills because nothing beats a really good pot of coffee, especially if you've roasted, ground and brewed it yourself. PS Sailors may have theirs sweetened with molasses on board ship and certainly their tea on a British ship.

Roasting coffee beans is a lot like toasting pecans or almonds or walnuts for a salad, only the beans take much longer. Thanks for another great video! (And maybe slow down those credits at the end, just a bit!)

Great video! I love the field ration videos. Maybe you could do one on how we baked our bread for the 150th Shiloh? :-)

In modern terms, would this be a medium or dark roast?
@CivilWarDigitalDigestАй бұрын
That completely depends how long you keep it in the roasting pan. Since you were going from green to complete, it would be up to when you stopped, I think.

Would a soldier on campaign carry a fry pan some people say they never would and others say they would.What is your opinion on whether you should carry one or not.
@CivilWarDigitalDigest6 жыл бұрын
Never say never and never say always! I have read accounts of dry pans, kettles, coffee pots being carried. Shared by a mess of men and traded around to carry.

How would you roast your coffee on campaign if you did not have a fry pan.Because on campaign you would get rid of every bit of unnecessary weight as possible.
@CivilWarDigitalDigest7 жыл бұрын
Using canteen half’s and kettles are other vessels they had access to. Sharing in a mess of several also helped. One carried a fry pan and another a pot while some carried nothing. Switching the loads around as needed.

I suspect the armys coffee beans came from various south american countries, or Caribbean islands.
