I found this very helpful. I've watched alot of videos but this one goes through the process slowly while explaining the reasons and purpose. Very well done! Thank you

I have. 10 month old cairn. Thank you for the video! I don’t know what to do with her legs. Scissor?

Thank you 😊 hand strip some hair, and you can tidy up with scissors. But mainly hand stripping, this way you will keep a good colour & texture. Hope it helps 😊

I don't understand - handstripping and rolling are described as the same thing, so why do you roll every week yet handstrip only a couple of times per year? there must be differences? Also, would you card before every handstrip? This topic is very confusing to me!
@maskenby51269 ай бұрын
Handstripping is the practice, while rolling is a coat type. If you only handstrip every 3-4 months, the dog will have a longer, less structured, fluffier coat (they often use this schedule for puppies who are getting used to grooming). If you handstrip every 1-4 weeks, this will give the dog a not too long or short, varied coat that reveals depth in their coloring, this is called a rolling coat. Hope this helps 👍

Should all terriers be carded? I have an Irish Terrier, who is a pet, and I do my own hand stripping. Should I be removing her undercoat by carding her. I was under the impression that the darker undercoat is what is seen once the longer dead hairs are stripped out and should not be removed, but I may have misunderstood. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

It's up to you ☺️ when you card the undercoat out the new layer if the coat grows faster & also the coat looks harsher and is darker

My Lakeland terrier had 5B cancer. He is 12. I tried to groom him myself and I made him look terrible.:{ Can you guide me to how to fix his coat? He can not stand physically for a pro grooming. That is why I attempted to groom him. Many thanks.

Is this what groomers call a "de-shedding" groom? (maybe that's an Australian term?) Or is this technique particular to the wire type coats? It is hard to explain to people that just because it is hot they shouldn't shave their dog eg Golden Retriever, because dogs don't sweat.. My own st poodle prefers to lie out in the sun in mid summer with 4" of coat, than be inside in the aircon! Thanks again. I'm a bit in love with Adele! Edit: Now I've rewatched a few times, carding may have been my best friend when I had beagles? All that silky soft helium-light stuff would snow from their coats, I'd give them a good rubbing with dishwashing gloves after a bath, but didn't know any other techniques. What do you think? I noticed a few years ago that the Beagles at the dog show had significantly softer coats than when I had mine. As though they were breeding the coat softer for the pet market than the hard weather-proof coat I believed they should have. Is this a local phenomenon?

With carding we are removing a soft undercoat in harsh coated breeds; de-shedding is for double coated breeds - removing all dead coat; yes, you can use carding on Beagel

I am curious, why didn't you strip her head and ears to keep the color. I know it's a lot of work, but the color is beautiful. I have a Wire Fox Terrier, I roll his jacket, strip his head and ears, and scissor, and clipper the rest.

When we used to show her she was hand stripped all over, but when she retired I started to clip her. It's less time consuming, and I don't mind the paler colour :)

@@vitacanis1117 so I had to write an essay about dog breeds that use stripping method and I wrote Any dog with a wiry coat that is easily removed can get stripped. This includes most terrier breeds as well as some sporting or hound breeds. Many mixed terrier type of Dogs from Southern areas also have a strippable coat. Some examples : Airedale terriers, wirefox terriers, wire haired dachshunds, schnauzer, Irish wolf hound affen pinscher spinone Italiano etc Is this right? 😭Or are these wrong breeds

@@vitacanis1117 I also had to write which tools are used for stripping. I wrote Stripping knives in 4 main. varieties Undercoat Rake different sizes Stripping chalk Finger protectors Carding knives Stripping stones And stripping comb Is this right and if yes is there something missing? Would really be grateful if i could get an answer from a professional because I found everything on Google and it was so confusing 😅😭I also wrote can be done with the fingers but tools are there to make the job easier

A handstripping is making with the hands, not with tools.
@vitacanis1117 Жыл бұрын
When hand stripping we are pulling the hair by thumb & finger, stripping knives, or stripping stone. No power tools are used. If you prefer to do hand stripping just by thumb & finger that't up to you
