I watched sooo many videos on how to trill my r's. I can say the 'r' in 'tres' properly but i couldn't trill. I think I kinda got it after watching this video because i tried the vibration and the back of my tongue first and then i put my tongue right behind my my front teeth and the front of my tongue vibrated!! For anyone struggling try this...I did and it worked (By the way while practicing doing this, the back of my tongue kinda stops vibrating and the front does now). HUGEEE thanks to this video though because i practiced what she said and some words that she provided and it worked!! I still have to continue practicing though...but thank you soo much! If anyone tries this and it works please let me know :) Good luck to anyone that is trying to trill! You'll get it soon, don't worry :D

For Spanish speakers: Vi tantos videos sobre cómo trinar mis r. Hi! I`m sorry, but I have to say that the rule with de "r fuerte" after p, t, g is neither mentioned in any textbook nor you can find this in other videos from Spanish native speakers. It`s always said that the "r fuerte" after consonants exists only after l, n, s. Also the phonetic alphabet only shows a "r débil" for "tres", "pronto" and "gracias"!! So, what`s the correct answer now??

I'm having a really hard time pronouncing the singular 'r' sounds like in 'tres' and other words like in 'otras' where the 'r' comes after the 't'. When I pronounce 'otras' it sounds like "o-ta-dras". Also, do you roll the r when it's at the end of a word like 'aprender'?
@mosalingua
@mosalingua 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Emma! Thanks for watching the video :) It's normal finding it difficult to pronounce "r" after "t" (as well as after "p" and "c") because they are part of a group of consonants (occlusive) that make the sound of "r" become stronger and thus similar to the double "r". It seems that you are using an additional syllable ("ta", which does not really exist in that word) to help you pronounce that sound. One trick is to roll your the tip of your tongue back by sliding it down your palate right after pronouncing the "t". At first, it will probably sound like a simple "r", but with some practice you will get to release the air correctly and make your tongue vibrate on the palate (roof of your mouth). As for the pronunciation of the "r" at the end of the word, yes, you also have to roll it. Good luck! MIRARI

Well, you can practice learning short daily sentences...

After the word if (si) you are required to use the imperfect subjunctive (hablaras), and after words like "alguien" you are required to use the present subjunctive (sea).. If at the moment you are a beginner, later on you will have to learn when to use the subjunctive mood. At the moment your written Spanish is good . Best wishes! I am taking the opportunity to respond to you because no one has done so !

MIRARI

@@mosalingua I watched all of it. I still think it needs some work before I could recommend it to someone learning to trill. I'll get rid of the thumbs down though because to your credit you did give some words to practice on. If you gave examples of the difference between the words being pronounced correctly and incorrectly I would have given it a thumbs up though. You're just saying if you're tongues not in the right sound it'll sound wrong, but not showing us what those mistakes would sound like. For example show the difference between what a Spanish word sounds like with an English d in it vs how it sounds with a proper Spanish r. Or show how the closed mouth trilling noise compares to the correct spanish "RR" sound. I'd bet a lot of people who think they got the trill down from watching your video are really doing the closed mouth incorrect version. Thanks for responding to me at least.
@mosalingua
@mosalingua 4 жыл бұрын
Hi slack babo, Thank you very much for your suggestions. We really appreciate them and we will consider them for future videos. Showing the difference between incorrect and correct sounds is really interesting. However, in our pronunciation videos we try to give some tips about how sounds are articulated in the target language so that all our subscribers can understand the basic techniques in a few minutes. As you may know, the learning process of a foreign language depends (a lot) on the student's mother tongue. Therefore, a French speaker, whose /r/ is guttural, will need to train the Spanish /r/ by "correcting" certain articulatory movements, while an English speaker, whose /r/ is retroflex, will need to practice in a completely different way. English language is just taken as a reference. In another video that shows "10 Spanish words that you might be pronouncing incorrectly" I give some tricks on how to avoid the most typical pronunciation mistakes. This one may meet your expectations 🙂. Here is the link, in case you want to have a look at it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pabOqHxqotejmK8 MIRARI
