@Sleurhutje4 жыл бұрын
Make sure to lean on your heels when rolling over cracks. When your weight is on the front of your feet, your front wheels will get stuck for sure. Just skating for four weeks from scratch it's still pretty tough but it's so much fun on quads.
@QueerGirlStraightSkates4 жыл бұрын
yes!
@leoninenoble4 жыл бұрын
Wait, when I lean back onto my heels for cracks I almost always fall backwards and bust my ass. What am I doing wrong?
@UnderChromey4 жыл бұрын
@@leoninenoble you're probably leaning too much. It's just a slight weight redistribution really and not a full body lean. You want to keep your centre of balance where it is to stay upright while shifting weight on your feet. To get an idea of how this can feel I find balancing on one foot with your skates on on a level surface is helpful. Find your balance and lift one foot, don't move your body, just move weight around on your foot and see how you keep your skate still from doing that, how the skate rolls when there's weight more to the front or to the heel etc. That weight being at the heel like that is what is referred to here.
@Sleurhutje4 жыл бұрын
AJ You're leaning too far backwards causing your center of gravity behind your rear wheels. Keep your knees bend and in line or in front of your toes. And your shoulders and head should also be inline with your knees. Of your head is too much behind your knees, falling backwards is guaranteed. Lower your center of gravity by bending your knees and lowering your butt. Then lift your toes a bit without shifting your body position.

I was worried being a thicker girl that it would be more difficult, or people will look at me funny, because all I see are really thin women looking like goddesses on skates. Seeing you two curvy ladies absolutely rock on skates has motivated me and this video definitely helped with my fear of the outside (I've been practicing in my basement). Only place I have to practice is outside. It's terrifying. My main problem is fear of falling I think, even though I already fell once on frozen ground. Good thing I have a fair bit of junk in the trunk. The slightest incline/decline, cracks, or anything not super smooth and flat are major obstacles for me, which sucks because that's all I have to work with. Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope! :p
@mandydiao28054 жыл бұрын
what kind of wheels are you using? I had some pretty decent wheels on my first pair of skates and as I upgraded to another pair I also got some new quality wheels and that made such a huge difference! I at first tried the Moxi Gummys and they where so super comfortable outside! They are really wide so maybe you would like some kind of narrower wheel and ones that are a bit smaller in diameter but the 78a are a good choice if you don't already own them. I also love my new radar energy wheels!
@MiauMichigan4 жыл бұрын
Same here. Where I live quads are only ment to be used for figure skating on super smooth floors so just to get some outdoor wheels was a challenge for me. Streets and sidewalks are in poor condition. I'm also a beginner skater and every day I've skated, I fell on my butt so now I'm scared. I'll keep trying not falling or falling on my knees though. Any tips you have for skating are well receive 😊

I hope this isn't unsolicited advice but I got some fundae wheels and I found them really good for ourdoors, gummies are awesome but they do stick to everything, they're bigger and wider which I noticed was more difficult. I felt I needed some speed, they're smaller too so they don't catch on everything it's wild. I fell twice yesterday, once in front of a pram (the baby laughed hehe) and once on a cross walk in front of quite a few cars, I cracked up though cause it would've looked HILARIOUS. If you wear lots of gear and try hard to not care about embarrassment so much you'll find your fears do fade quite quickly. X

@fifilemew75244 жыл бұрын
You're probably using harder wheels for derby, so I would definitely recommend getting softer wheels so you don't tear up your derby wheels. Top of my head I want to say my derby wheels are 92 and my outdoor wheels are 78. I chose to get a different pair of skates for outdoor, but plenty of derby peeps just use the same skates and swap wheels if brand new skates aren't an option for you!

I have been seeing so many skating videos over the internet for a while now but I never saw any plus size babes skating so it made me wonder if I could skate myself. You two have wonderful positive personalities and you might have convinced me to buy some skates and start learning! 💕

Thank you! You can definitely skate at any size. It's just about knowing how to navigate with your own personal body shape- and that comes with trial and error :)

Learning to skate under my current circumstances means that I’m learning how to skate at all, outside. My first time ever really skating (I think I went “skating” less than 10 times as a kid) was in a grocery store parking lot at midnight (I wasn’t alone, it was perfectly safe). I’m no good right now, but it’s a lot of fun and I really want to stick with it.

I guess the algorithm knows me and my 17 year old just ordered skates, they come Tuesday. It was perfect timing or fate that brought me here, but I am sure glad they did ❤

Hi there, please do a video on going up and downhill, not like at real high speed but just leisurely rolling. I love your content and the happy vibe it always has. Cheers from down under.

as an over weight, beginner skater this is so so good to see! i was scared that maybe skating might not be for me because of my weight (most of the skaters i’ve seen have been quite thin) but this video makes me feel so confident!!! thank you so much for this :)

This was very motivational. I am excited (and a little nervous) to get out there and start skating.

So useful! I know a lot of it may seem obvious, but I actually realized that the way that I was tackling little obstacles was not the smoothest or most efficient way. I think us newbies need more videos about stuff that seem obvious.

Went street skating with my friends yesterday. It was definitely hard for someone who like me who doesn’t work out and hasn’t skated since quarantine closed the rinks. I didn’t even have my own skates until two days ago pretty much haha. They were not all terrain skates but they’re all I could find in my size that were in stock. The wheels and stopper need to be replaced with better ones, but I had fun regardless, especially when I remembered how to actually skate! Can’t wait to get better quality wheels and a stopper so I can catch up with my friends!

This is what I need. One week on reller skating, I tried roller skating outside yesterday, and those cracks pavement made me anxious. I fell like 4 times haha 🤣

For skating outside it's also important to have the right wheels. My skates came with the mota toxic hybrid wheels, and after going outside and falling on my butt one too many times, I learned that perhaps my wheels are too hard. The skate shop had assured me that the wheels would be find for skating outside but I've ordered some softer ones anyway.
