this video just saved me so much money i dont think you understand

One BIG problem! When the drag link location is changed on the steering knuckle/axle end, the track bar location MUST be changed appropriately the same amount on the axle end or the radius arcs of the track bar vs. drag link will be different during suspension travel causing bump steer and instability! In other words, the drag link and track bar MUST remain relatively parallel to each other. I’m a Jeep Master Tech and I spend a lot of time correcting steering/suspension issues on modified Wranglers and this is one issue I see quite frequently.

nice to see someone using a dana 44 not always a need for 1 ton axles and they add lots of unsprung weight and can also limited up travel because of there size
@BigTireGarage5 сағат бұрын
I've done a lot of testing and I think the D44 is still a great option for the right setup

Before i watched this video i thought about how i would do it and it was exactly what you did, with one exception. I would think a ball joint delete would be stronger. Why did you choose rebuildable over the deletes?
@kelvinelrick8072 сағат бұрын
Ball joints are a wear item, since they have to pivot, so going with rebuildable ones that don't require you to press them out is a lot less work when the time comes to fix worn out parts. That's just my guess.

Have you been doing anything with your VW Bug?

I know this is about stock JK axles, but I'm curious if you can run spidertrax unit bearings on 2005+ front Dana 60s. They may even make unit bearings for JK's. I know they do away with locking hubs and I believe the spline pitch of their 35 spline hubs are the same, but I'm not sure if you can only run them with their spidertrax knuckles or if you can run them with the Dana 60 knuckles.

On welding anything to the cast C’s or differential housing , some say you need to heat them for better penetration. Others recommend a certain type of wire. What do you recommend?
@BigTireGarage4 сағат бұрын
The "C" is thin enough to not preheat...there is not an excessive amount of welding to the center section

Got an XJ on a D30. I trussed, sleeved, and C-gusseted it. Synergy ball joints. Moly axles and a Aussie locker. Planning on RCVing it in the future. Also planning for an air/E-locker at some point. Running a 33x12.50. Doing mild to moderate wheeling in the Sierras. What's the tire size cutoff for this axle with these mods?

Id say 35” on a built dana 30.

Can you do a setup on a 14 bolt with all the mods
@CalmOutOfChaos6 сағат бұрын
Just buy a 1-ton gasser V8 pickup, remove the bed and shorten it to a 115" wheelbase. Boom done mount your 40's. :)

what about the track bar mount on the axle side? wont you get bad bump steer without raising it to the height of the drag link at the knuckle?
@BrandonZ55XJ6 сағат бұрын
That drag link and track bar seem to be very different angles. Won't that cause a lot of feed back and bump steer?
@BigTireGarage6 сағат бұрын
No...it isn't the angle that is important...it is the arc that they travel in
@danielmagalhaes573933 минут бұрын
One question? Should the panhard bar be at the same angle with the tie rod?

Problem is you're still running the smaller unit bearings and ball joints. Lots of good upgrades for ball joints but the unit bearings wear out. I've run 37s plenty on these but 40s really are way too much.
@BigTireGarage6 сағат бұрын
I think the wear on unit bearings is sometimes caused by the scrub radius of the wheels
@ozguy13936 сағат бұрын
@BigTireGarage that certainly doesn't help, but 40s require clearance to turn too. The extra width of tons gives that clearance. 37s rubbed my JK frame pretty bad with the stock axle, and appropriate wheels. Can't really do much with big tores and wheels that aren't pushed out.
@wvjeepguy81783 сағат бұрын
Yep, 40s on these JK axles is really mall crawler territory. Even 37s will be very hard on these axles.

@reddragonor3 сағат бұрын
@wvjeepguy8178 I disagree, I have 40s on rubicon axles, front built just like this. Driven to and wheeled moab for a week, rubicon for a week and several local places with no issues..... so far. And no, jeep doesn't get trailered to the trails. Am I pushing it? Yes. Are tons in the jeeps future? Yes. Is my jeep a mall crawler? Hell no.
