My advice would be to not stress if you don’t achieve your goals first time. I wanted sub 4 and my training times suggested I could do it. But nerves on race day lead to 4:58, 5:15, 4:18, 4:22, 4:08. I really didn’t think I could ever do it and wasn’t bother on marathon 6. Result: 3:57.

Followed your marathon plan (3h45-4h15) during the Athens marathon recently, and I managed to complete it in 4:05 despite walking for the most part after KM34. I unfortunately got some major stomach cramps and I'm not quite sure why/how it happened. The plan was great, and I could have easily shaved off another 15 mins but I must figure out what's going on with my fueling...! That being said, that was my first one and I got it done and a lot because of your plan and videos. Cheers!

Hey Ben. I started to train 11 months before my first marathon and it was awesome. I really could take it all in - the whole process - I loved it. After 9 months I signed up for a half marathon and it went so well . I ran the half in 2.41 hour and I had really improved before my training I couldnt run a half under 3 hours.. Well everyone is different and have got it in their own time and if you have limitations well everyone who have passed the 60 years might have quite a pair of issues to take care of before under and after a run.......remember dont generalize we are all different..thank you for a great vlog here Ben. Great vid as usual. I noticed u had the strength day on an easy day. I've heard others say keep hard days hard, easy days easy, and do the strength work after a hard run? When I tried the latter, I think I got too beat up. How do u judge which way to go?
@BenParkesАй бұрын
It's always worked best for me to do my strength work on easy run days. Keeping speed sessions / long runs by themselves. Then rest days are completely free of training... just daily life.

You don’t have to completely stop at the water station. You can take the water and walk until you drink it. That way you lose less time and you are not in the way of others that want to take a drink from the station.

Thank you for another informative video. Am ecstatic about finishing my first marathon … but I am starting to have overuse injuries despite a regular strength training program. I am an older runner and just started to be active 18 months ago. I have been swapping my easy runs with cycling instead. This is ok right? Thanks again
@BenParkesАй бұрын
Some older runners do switch some of the easier runs for cross training. So cycling, swimming or time on the cross trainer / elliptical. Congratulations on finishing your first marathon. Fantastic!

Great video Ben. I’m training for my first half marathon on February 16th. Not sure which plan of yours to buy. I am very slow and would like to improve my pace. Been running for a year consistently. Easy run pace is about 21/22 miles per hour. Can do about 3-4 runs a week and about 30 miles a week. Also my calves/shins take 2 miles to warm up/stop burning. Add more strength workouts??? Thanks. Happy running. 🏃🏻♀️❤️🌈

I just participated in my first official half-marathon run yesterday. I started strong for the first 16 km, averaging 6 to 6:30 per km, but my legs and soles suddenly felt awful. I finished in 2:38:00. How can I prepare better to avoid this next time, including food and exercise?
@DrSlipstreamАй бұрын
There are plenty of things you could do to make micro improvements, but the huge improvements ultimately come down to just training more. Aim for 30-45 mins of easy running per day, then start to add in workouts as you get consistent with that. Carrying extra weight makes a huge difference as well, so make sure your diet is in check.

Hi ! I have a question about the zone training , i am a very busy person and have around 30-45minutes to run a day no more , people keep sating run in zone 2 , but i am able to run in zones 3-4 for all the time i have , why should i run in zone 2 instead of 3 or 4 if i csn tolerate it? I know long runs should be in zone 2 but if i can only run a certain amount of time wouldnt it be better to give my best ? Thanks
