Great video. I did Brighton in 3:54 in April. Aiming for 3:30 in Abingdon

Appreciate the video. Having improved from 4:22 to 3:55 in 4 marathons, I think volume made the most difference. Maxed out at 41 miles/week in my first block and up to 53 miles in the most recent. Also helpful was better fueling, going from 4 GU's to 8 SIS gels - I find the SIS gels easier, more syrup than paste. Hoping to increase mileage and speedwork this next block and shoot for 3:45.

That's a great improvement Layne! Volume is definitely a huge factor, I'm always surprised at how much of an impact more gels seem to have on me to. Best of luck in your quest for 3:45! 💪

Great tips!! Running fast doesn't come naturally to me either but hoping to beat my PB.

100% agree, they’re no fun but tempo sessions are essential. Great video

Thanks! I found it very hard to consume anything past 30km, stomach was fine but just couldn't get it down. I think I need to work on carb loading in the days before and really getting the energy topped up more. I probably don't eat nearly enough.

It’s a real challenge, last thing in the world you want to do is eat towards the back end of a marathon but I definitely feel the benefit when I do! Thanks for watching, hope your trainings going well 💪

Your definition of tempo run isn't conventional... it's usually defined as the pace you can hold for an hour approximately. The run itself is then 20-30 minutes at that pace

i don't struggle with running a certain "fast" tempo for a couple of kilometers maybe even up to 15km. However i never manage to keep that pace for a whole marathon. for the intervals (1k with rest) i can run like a minute/k faster than said tempo pace. How can i improve my longtime endurance for those marathons?

Honestly I would focus on fast repeats increasing in distance. I’d start with something like 8x400m at a 9/10 building up to mile repeats. I’ve found this coupled with long slow zone two work works best for me 👌
