How to run Resident Evil 4 on a 144hz/high refresh rate monitor.

Since Village's release a lot of players have gone back to play RE4 due to the similarities both games have however you may find that the game no longer launches, no picture being displayed, or simply crashes as soon as it's launched. This is due to using a high refresh rate monitor and the conflict it causes the game itself. Here is how to fix that issue.

If the fix mentioned in my video doesn’t work for you, try installing the resident evil 4 HD mod alongside the 4gb patch tool. Just search “resident evil 4 HD mod” on Google and use the first link that appears make sure to follow the instructions thoroughly. The mod itself has a ton of fixes that usually fix this issue if my method doesn’t work.

This fix completely fixed the game for me. It even starts in fullscreen even though i have it disabled in the config. Alt tabbing doesn't crash it at all. Thanks! The game worked perfectly fine for me in Linux with my 144hz display but that was probably because Linux used DXVK natively to render games in Vulkan in stead of DirectX.

PLEASE make sure, if youre using the Dxvk fix, use the 32bit version of the dx9 files. x86 (64bit) will not work because re4 is a 32bit game. I made the mistake of using x86 the first time lol

I seriously can't thank you enough. I got through a playthrough of this game while in windowed mode and I couldn't change it to full screen without the resolution being terrible. This not only lets me play the game in fullscreen but it actually works now cause I was having that glitch where it would boot up with a whitescreen. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Sorry for the very late reply, search on Google “resident evil 4 HD mod” the first link that pops download and follow the instructions for installation, it should fix your issue as it has built in fixes alongside the HD mod itself.

After copy pasting those two files the game began working for me, however there's no picture. I'm sure that doing what you said in the second part of the video would help me but I can't find the RE4 config anywhere. The only option left for me is to download that mode which is something I really don't want to do.

If this doesnt work try github.com/nipkownix/re4_tweaks/releases and move files dinput8.ini and dinput8.dll into RE4 Bin34 - this method worked for me when this didnt

Turns out this is a driver issue with AMD cards. RE4 no longer works on AMD cards without applying this fix.

Bro thank you!! The notepad setting thing seems to at least helps me to be able to open the game now without it immediately crashing. But now the game just appears on a small window and it's only sound without display whatsoever, how can I fix this? Also, for some reason there's no Bin32 folder in my PC? so I can't do the copy paste file thing. basically no matter what resolution or whatever, just dont play in FS mode or youll crash the game instantly. Capcom needs to go back and fix that, or can it and release a new and improved RE4

Man i have an aoc monitor 165 hz and i tried every single thing your guide is very decent but still for me doesnt work.I installed hd project too and still same the only thing it does is to flicker go to some smaller resolution and then nothing throw me back to desktop at 1920x1080 165 hz.There isnt folder to edit the configuration settings since it doesnt load at all.I tried to take the path you showed where the files should be and created 3 folders my self created a txt coppied your values and changed the txt onto ini it became configuration setting file but still the freaking game doesnt load.I dont know what else should i do xD

Did you do all fixes mentioned in my video? They should fix your issue as I had the exact same one, make sure to go into the options file and turn off full screen. Boot it up and you should be able to see everything and then manually set it back to full screen in the game itself when it’s opened. You will have to do this fix every time you launch the game.
