OH MY GOD I just got into D&D and TaleSpire seemed so charming but my only gripe was revealing NPC hp and hidden secrets. My idea was just to switch to a 'blank' screen (on video stream) while manipulating things then returning to the scene after making the changes, but this still took away from some of the dramatic effect. Watching this now!

Ahhh yes that is super handy, wish I knew that when I started DMing a game and no one had copies lol. Very very useful the little game I'm running for the kids though.

but talespire is listed on my system as a .url file, not as a .exe file. How do I open another instance if this is the case?

I would love to see a video of someone using Talespire as a VTT for in person where you have a screen on the table. I am not sure how the perspective would work, and Iam not sure how the mini would look.

i actually do this. In order for it to work you have to use 3 instances of Talesphire. One is used on the digital board form a overhead perspective. The second instance is projected on the tv from and the camera is angled at the side(for esthetics). Lastly, my instance, the one I use to control and govern the game. Its been more than fun for my friends and I. I will say It is a lot of work to get everything set up before the game, but if your running 4-6 hour sessions then its well worth the prep.

Did you think its possible to use the same technique but with Family mode from Steam? So one player could launch the game on his pc with the family steam thing, and you Can still launch it with the .exe on your own pc ?

Now all I have to do is have the ability to share my screen with the players (we play remote) and have that screen allow players to take control of their mini :) ... As much as I love the stories I find this to be one of your most interesting and useful videos so thank you :D ... I just miss Skyden on your "behind the scenes" vids but I guess there is no money to be made in these and we all know what a gold hog Skyden is LOL

Skyden here! Yep, you're right I am a gold hog! :D But even if I wasn't, you don't want me on these videos. You'd get nowhere and the video would take twice as long! Besides, I've got my own behind the scenes vid going up soon. 😀

Hey, it's been a year, but Parsec allows people to control your window and stuff like that, I recommend. Me and my friends used it to play Emulated Mario.

So I have very high specs on my computer but I can't seem to run two windows at a time without major lag, any thoughts in this?
@SkydenandWrenick
@SkydenandWrenick 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, there are a few things you might want to play around with. The first thing that sprang to mind was board complexity. I know using boards that have a lot of assets on them can cause lag - especially if you are running two copies. So one thing to maybe consider trying is smaller, less complex boards. You might also try running the windows in a slightly lower resolution and maximising them - running two games at a resolution of say 4k can be quite a resource hog. Failing that, you can try adjusting the quality settings in talespire so that its not as heavy on the gpu. From memory I think there is a high shadow quality setting that I remember being quite taxing so you could try lowing that for a start. Hope that helps. :D

@@SkydenandWrenick thank you. I will try that My specs on the computer are way above so I thought it could handle it but guess not. I'll start with the shadows and go from there. I was even thinking making the GM version lowest on all setting amd then highest quality on player mode. What do you think?

1. Will all due respect about 90% of this video is explaining GM vs players view which has nothing to do with running two instances on the same computer. All those function work the same way if the players are running their own instance. It would have been better if the video focused more on the differences between running two sessions on the same machine and two regular sessions. 2. The video does not mention the biggest issue with doing this. Both instances are running using the same user name and you can't change that. If you change the user name on one it will change the user name on both. This means if you are using any mods that are based on the player name (e.g. Chat Service) you may have issues because both instances will respond. Some related plugin if you are using a modded Talepsire are: 1. Stream View plugin allows you to trigger cut-scenes from the GM's session to any player or group of player. So you aren't limited to having to show the cut-scene to all (like you are in core). 2. Remote Control Plugin allows users to do some very basic control of a mini via a WinForm app or a website. This is ideal of you are using the second session for a stream to other players who don't have Talespire because it allows them to move their own mini based on the stream view.

wondering if you have tested this out while building. does it have any issues with updating the seconds session.
@SkydenandWrenick

Wrenick here: Yep it works fine. I haven't had any issues. Because both copies are running from the same machine, it updates instantaneously. There is actually a small demo in the video. 😀
