I will be studying DE300 in October this year, and I'm so stuck on which topic to choose. I'm hoping to go into clinical psychology, so a lot of the topics that I'm interested in, I can't do due to ethical considerations. Most of the ideas I have involve using surveys as the method, so this is super helpful. Thanks! Do you have any other tips or advice for deciding on a project idea?

Great video...very helpful :)

Our DE300 forum has just opened, and the survey moderator/tutor said it's a correlational method (correlation is a synonym for relationship.association).

Looking at the different methods you discuss in these excellent videos - do you feel one or other would have a greater benefit in a job application/interview or application for further study to Masters level? Thanks for any answer, and thanks again for posting these vlogs and congratulations on your graduation!

Great question! I don't believe one method/methodology benefits more than others, especially not within Master's study. By the end of the Q07 (BSc Psych) study, you would have had experience in at least two methods, if you so choose (the first being Text-based that you will have to undergo within the DE200 module). I do suppose that if you're looking to apply for a very market-related job, the survey method would be a benefit as you would be able to familiarise yourself with how to run surveys and how to run the relevant statistical analysis - but otherwise, I couldn't think of any reason why one method would benefit more than others!

@@blaiseonthevid thanks for the answers - on a more general point: Do you suspect, as I do, that the rise of "checker" websites such as Grammarly is as a result of formal grammar no longer being taught as part of a general education?
@blaiseonthevid3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I don't believe it was ever a "major" aspect of general education, but if I do remember correctly, I did have a lot of tutorials during my OU studies (plus a lot of tutor feedback) about formal/academic writing. There are also whole sections within the OU course that talks about it - but of course, one has to have the initiative to learn and develop it. It really is a skill and I'm glad I learned it during my OU studies. I do have to say that I believe the rise of proofreaders like Grammarly may come from the rise in non-English speaking people coming in, as well. But general laziness could also be a factor, rather than lack of education. Again, people have to take the initiative to *learn* formal writing. That being said, I had used Grammarly just to make sure I hadn't missed out on any little grammatical error that I may have missed during my 5 or so times of rereading my assignments 😂

Aarrghhh ..... I just started in October and am still on my first two modules, DD102 and DE100. This is a totally different language to me and I'm terrified of when I have to work with statistics, as I'm not very good at maths! Panicking now 😬 😧
@blaiseonthevid3 жыл бұрын
Oh no no! Don't panic! You'll do fine! Thankfully with The OU, most of the statistical work will be done via the SPSS program, so you wouldn't have to do any of the heavy lifting. That being said, if you're still scratching your head about it by the time you take up DE300, opt for the text-based method - zero numbers ;)
@ShazWag3 жыл бұрын
@@blaiseonthevid Phew! Thanks for that 🙏🏼. Do they teach you all statistics and key terms you need to know? Did you manage to change your tutor at any time?
@blaiseonthevid3 жыл бұрын
Yes, most definitely! The thing about OU study is that you will most definitely learn everything that you need to know - in the case of Psychology, within the DE- modules which are your main ones. If I'm not mistaken (because it was a while ago), you'll have "Investigating Methods" in DE100 and in DE200 they'll go through most of the statistical methods etc :) I never got my tutor changed but that was because I didn't try to - I'm too independent! You can always have a chat with the SST if you're feeling like you're not getting your money's worth though... Good luck! x

Do you have a video on how you scored the personality questionnaire in spss im struggling?
@blaiseonthevid2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the specific questionnaire that you're using. Yours might be different to what mine was - you need to contact your tutor and tell them you're struggling

Hi there, do you mind advising how I can get the module materials for the DE300 externally from OU? Thanks.
@blaiseonthevid3 жыл бұрын
Hi, as I've mentioned in the video: I'm not a representative of the OU and am not able to advise you on that. You'll probably get better information by contacting them directly :)
