Buddy heaters are not catalytic heaters, they are radiant heaters that have an open flame, so be careful about placing items in front of it, also they do not have a co sensor, they have a low oxygen sensor that shuts the heater off when it detects low oxygen, it doesn’t detect co, although given how very little the buddy heaters emit co, which makes them safe to use inside tents, fishing shacks, hunting blinds ect. it’s still smart to have a portable co detector with you, just incase.

As old as this video is I'm surprised no one has corrected you! Frist, None of the Mr Buddy heaters are catalectic heaters, if they you would not have worry about CM! NONE of them have a Carbon Monoxide sensor, they have a Zero Oxygen sensor.

Last winter was first time I have winter camped and I used a little buddy heater with a 1lb propane tank...The coldest night was 8 degrees and we did just fine.. the only negative was the small tanks only lasting about 6 hrs. My son gifted me the buddy heater that you used it this video, along with the hose so I could attach a 15 lb tank. I winterized my tent with water repellent spray and I also have a piece of mylar covering the inside roof to deflect heat back down. Omg..this heater is amazing! I have a house but I sleep better in the tent. I rescued a cat last winter ..he isn't an indoor kind of cat. It bothered me that he doesn't like humans and other cats enough to feel comfortable coming inside when it was freezing outside..so I slept every night in the tent with him. All winter. We, Ed the cat and I, are ready for winter #2.

Great idea ! I also run a small fan that hangs from tent ceiling. This keeps the warm air down near the ground where I am.
@hardcorecampinggear3 жыл бұрын
Yes!! There's a guy on YT I saw who uses a wood burning stove fan that he clips on top of the Mr Heater-- and it requires no batteries because the heat moves the propellers. I look 'em up on Amazon and they were about $40. I think if I was camping in much colder temperatures it might be worth it.

The Mr. Heater buddy heaters have a built in regulator... it is best to screw a filter to it before you install hose that then connects to tank part No. is inside door

As a fellow Gazelle fan and owner (T8) I wanted to pass along a tip with running your propane hose: remember the floor of your Gazelle is removable. Rather than running it through the doorway, you can easily split the velcro between the tent body and the tent floor. Less chance to trip over the hose, and keeps the floor of the tent hose-free as well. Anyway- great video!

Be sure to keep the window open all the time and make sure enough air is exchanged to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. It could be worse than you might think. I recently got Buddy heater and started to use in my sunroom. I loved it, but after running it for several hours, I noticed that the buddy heater was no longer working. I could not start it. I thought it was broken. So, I tried to start with a BBQ grill lighter, but the BBQ grill lighter did not light up in the sunroom. Outside of the sunroom, it worked fine. I tried the BBQ lighter several times in and out of the sunroom and it did not work only in the sunroom. I finally realized that there was not enough oxygen left in the sunroom, even though, the sunroom was not airtight and the air should be exchanged some when I went in and out of the sunroom several times. The scary part was that I thought I was breathing just fine and there was absolutely no discomfort when I was in the sunroom.

Do you have a regulator and gauge for the large propane tank? If not I would highly recommend those, safety first!

My propane tank is outside of my tent, and sometimes it’s too cold to leave the tent. Can I leave the propane tank valve open as long as the heater is off? Or will the gas leak from the tank unless I close it?

I don't use the 20 lb tank in the house I bought the regional tanks that you can fill up and out of a 20 lb tank but they are very expensive but well worth it.

I'm in a Ford explorer and I'm hoping this Mr Buddy will work in my van. I will have some of my window down some for ventilation. Do you think this will work okay. I have a big tank that I use to use on an outdoor grill that I want to use but am unsure where to store it while I'm driving. I live in Virginia.
@hardcorecampinggear2 жыл бұрын
I think everything is going to get wet from condensation if you use the Mr Buddy in your van. Bob Wells reviewed another type of heater a few years ago on his channel CheapRVLiving, that you might consider investigating.
@jam3498 Жыл бұрын
It will work. They have several models of Mr. Heater. One or two of them in particular are specifically made for indoor use although it can be used outdoors. I run it in my van almost all night and sometimes have a window crack yet never notice significant condensation buildup. But if humidification is an issue then get a dehumidifier. I have an 11 pound tank... half the normal size. It fits perfectly in a milk carton. Personally I wouldn't keep the normal size tank in a car unless you have extra safety features set up in your car that deals with potential leaks and carbon monoxide monitors. Also, these don't have carbon monoxide detectors but they do have tip over sensors where it will turn off when tipped over. So buy 1 or 2 monitors. But yeah u should be good to go

Morning mi friend, its not often but me an mi mate we're out in - 10. If you have the right gear. You don't need a heater. Wood stove is great for winter camping. Car camping is great for some in the US. But here in Wales an England we walk with are kit. Carry gear an right kit. Keep positive. Atb Andy 🇬🇧👍🇺🇸

I do about the same thing, except I us a larger Mr Heater in a larger tent. And for extreme cold down to zero I use the Wiggy's zero-degree boat-foot bag, it weighs 4 pounds, or the Browning bag rated for, I think, 30 below and it weighs over 15 pounds, with both I use a few hand warmers and an air mattress on a military cot and fleece PJ's. A word of safety, I noticed you're using moving blankets in your tent. Wash them and air them out as some have chemicals. Enjoyed the video. HAND SALUTE FROM A VET

I ordered a 5 ft hose and a fuel filter. I don’t see how the length of hose would introduce particulate.
@hardcorecampinggear2 жыл бұрын
Watch the video from the 5 minute mark. It's not the length, it's just that this length is the only one they make that the material won't break down and leak particulate. Will the fuel filter counteract that issue? I don't know.
