I love early mornings to watch the sunrise! This little thing has a great heat output kzbin.infoUgkxAvrAfikbUEMthp3AZ6iX5FKdiHfzy_RP . I sit in my rocker, warm, and watch the sunrise! It's great for travel as well. Just stow and go. Love this thing! For hunters, I've heard that they also make a little hood so that it focuses the heat a bit more if you have to sit further away. Just a heads up. It's so easy and quick to set up and get going.

TiP: I tried to hook one of these up to a 20lb tank (using the hose made by Mr Heater) the first time I needed to use it. No matter what I did i couldn't get that SOB to light!! Turns out with the bigger tank comes higher pressure and there's a safety valve in the heater end of the hose that closes if the pressure is too high. Reset it by tapping that end of the hose on the tank, or ground a few times. Then open the tank in 1/4 turns to keep the pressure down. After I learned this trick, no problems with the big tank.

Two things Mr Heater makes two different hoses one is a a quick disconnect they cost a little more but you don’t need a filter and when you turn 20 Lb tank on do it very slowly a quarter turn at a time so you don’t flood the hose with propane

Did this setup this past weekend. Started sleeping in a tarp to try it out. Anyway it got down to just above freezing. First night went through 2 one pound tanks. Initially tried the 20lb but could not get it too light. Tried it again the next day and was able to get it to light. Did not wait long enough for the gas to get to the pilot light. The second night was much more comfortable as I did not have to get up to swap tanks. When tearing down the third day it seemed like it took forever for the gas to leave the hose between the tank and filter. Also had a stove fan that works with heat from the heater to turn a fan with no batteries.

@ryanworrell83
@ryanworrell83 2 жыл бұрын
You can detect micro leaks this way because it doesn't spray bubbles all over the pipe you're trying to inspect just a liquid. I wouldn't use your method personally because i was the guy that approved or denied a hp/lp plumbing jobs. The soap test works good imo but the industry requires a pressure gage and we filled the lines with compressed air to do leak tests just incase we did find a leak.

You can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if you take the tank to one of those exchanges like at a gas station or Walmart or Home Depot, they will take any tank that you bring them as long as it's not damaged and they will put in a new brass fittings and valve and they will repaint it and make it like new. I understand that refilling the tank is cheaper than doing an exchange, but that is one way to get rid of a out-of-date tank I would believe.

We have mostly orange propane tubes in Europe. The most are more stiff, but oil free. So no propane filter needed. One version is for Standard temperature. The other is stable for winter frosty. I will get my first buddy heater tomorrow. (Single canister version) I ordered also the propane tube for bigger gas bottles. Mine is 10 lbs. - And I´m age 62. So it`s better. I have also a refill set, to refill our gas canisters. And know "upside down", to refill with liquid gas. Greetings from sw germany (middle europe)

I have a Mr. Heater Big Buddy. Been going through a lot of issue. The Mr. Heater 10-foot hose is made of special material that does not leech oil so a filter is not needed. I use a filter just to be extra safe for bad propane. The issue is that with a 10-foot hose and filter not enough gas can get through to run the heater on medium and high. Had to take the filter off to get full function from the heater.

Yes...this is the best way...I keep a cheap paint brush and mason jar of water/dish soap near the tank to check it for leaks when we hook up. If you just gently mix them, no shaking...then put the clear liquid on the connections...if you have a leak it will bubble but you can see exactly where the leak is because it will be the only bubbles. If you foam it up it seams like it would be harder to pin point the leak?

I bought a Big Buddy and thought it was a bad unit. It would not stay lit on the burner. The pilot would stay lit. The issue was with the tank(s). The 20lb tanks have a safety valve in them. If you open the tank valve quickly and hear a click sound at the tank the safety valve has tripped and the heater burner will not stay lit. Open the tank valve slowly and make sure the tank makes no noise.

You should use a regulator when using a bulk tank. The pressure coming off the tank and into the hose causes oils to leach out of the hose, which clogs the filter and destroys the ceramic burners. There are some hoses that won't leach oils, but they are very costly. If you keep the hose capped between use and have a trusted supplier, you don't need a filter at all. The oil that gets into propane systems is always a result of over pressurization, sometimes, that happens at the fill station. For refilling 1 lb bottles, there are refillable bottles available, most of the single use bottles will leak within a couple of refills.

How can I fix one I've already seen having oil in it?
@N1ghtF1re
@N1ghtF1re 2 жыл бұрын
If you're just starting to see oil, there's probably no need for any serious cleaning, just vacuum the burners and pilot light, then clean the pilot light with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. It took my oldest Big Buddy over 20 years of heavy use with a bulk tank before the oil buildup got into the burners badly enough to effect performance. I had to take the burners out and put them in my ultrasonic cleaner to get the working properly again. Usually, when a Buddy heater starts acting up, it's the pilot light. The instructions for the Big Buddy specifically states a filter is not needed if using a regulator at the bulk tank or one of the special hoses.

I'm interested in that big buddy with the 20 pound tank. I turn down my downstairs thermostat way down at night to save energy. In the morning it takes a long time to for the furnace to bring downstairs up to temperature. The big buddy seems to have the power to heat things up quickly. Then I can shut it off and let the furnace maintain the temperature.

This is the best informative Mr. Heater Little Buddy video that I've ever watched. Thank You! Do you recommend removing the hose and 1 # tanks when not in use?

I have a "Big Buddy" I wanted to run it from a tank, but DID NOT want to have full tank pressure coming into my house and into the unit's regulator. So I shopped online and found the Mr Heater hose kit with the regulator at the tank. Works great. The other rig seems......dangerous.

A new homesteader channel called thunderdome Homestead showed how to fill 1 lb canisters using the 20 lb canisters or whatever size you have. It's similar to refilling a Zippo lighter with butane. That's a good option for people who don't have a way to use a hose inside their house unless you've opened up a window or something. That's the only problem with using anything larger than the 1 lb bottles is that you've got to connect it to the tank which has to be outside. Personally I have a lot of 1 lb bottles but I also have everything that you're showing here to connect to my 20 lb bottles but more than likely I'll just refill the 1 lb bottles. Or what would you recommend? I'm not excited about opening up a window which would let in a lot of cold air just to feed the hose through the screen.

Get thick foam to put in the window around the hose if you have to open a window. It will prevent cold air coming in.
