Want to learn how to rush the puck like an NHL defensemen? This weeks video will show you exactly how to do that and the mechanics you need to find that standard.
In this video , we'll break down the three essential elements that make a successful puck rush: the pickup, initial deception, and final deception. The first key aspect is the pickup, which involves a good head check and utilizing a Shuffle technique. By checking your surroundings and employing a Shuffle maneuver, you ensure that you have the necessary time and space to execute the rush effectively.
Once you've completed the pickup, it's time for the initial deception. Here, we introduce the use of crosses. By employing crosses immediately after the Shuffle, you create an angle that forces the defender to react and make a decision. This element sets the foundation for a successful rush.
The third and final element is the use of a soft drag or an anchor. This technique is crucial in beating the defender and advancing toward the goal. It involves a medium-speed shoulder check, followed by a Shuffle, crosses, and then executing the anchor or soft drag move.
If you're looking to go alittle further and learn these mechanics in detail, we offer two resources: the Downhill Skating Free Training and the Train 2.0 Plus Membership. These comprehensive programs provide step-by-step instructions on mastering the Shuffle on the pickup, cross-unders, and soft drags or anchors necessary to beat that initial defender.
