Repair unsightly rust before it's too late.
If the car has a natural enemy, it's rust. Left unattended it's unsightly and unsafe, but can be repaired with the right products and a bit of effort. You can keep your car in top condition by checking your body work as often as you check your oil and repairing rust spots as soon as they appear.

How about the inside of the panel as rust can find its way through, also the "fibreglass" should be ground a bit lower for the filler to be applied then sanded even for primer filler.

Man, I'm sick and tired of all these self-righteous "bodymen" constantly whingeing about how this "isn't a proper repair" or this is just a band-aid. Why spend hours on a "professional" repair on a car that likely won't last past the repair itself. It is a "temporary" repair, because it's a temporary car...

@@steveperez4647 then you probably wouldn't be looking for shortcut tips on a channel called "supercheap". I have two cars in my driveway right now that both need rust repair. One might get a hack like this, the other certainly won't. That's how rational people function, they choose the appropriate tool/method for the situation at hand.

if your'e not cutting out rust and welding new metal in,then repairing this way is o.k.,as long as you grind out the rust totally- be really brutal- don't leave any rust-pits behind. then,once youv'e filled the holes,painted it and finished the repair, coat the back of the panel in engine-oil,to stop,or drastically reduce,rust coming back in the future.

this is'nt a "repair" this is a band-aid. the filler over the top of rust will accelerate the rust by absorbing and trapping moisture inside the panel. a real repair involves cutting out all rusted metal and welding in new

Only treating/repairing one side will not stop the rust. It will continue to rust on the back side. It can only be eliminated by cutting the rusted areas out completely. I know this because I worked many years in the auto repair business and I currently work at an auto factory.

@@George-ie1si while i do agree it all depends on the application like I'd use this on my car but depending on how bad it is I'd cut and weld new sheet metal but for little job like this on my old beast is a completely acceptable but for my trailer or the roof of my old navara it's not lol It all depends on how bad the damage is

To be honest, the only problem is on the inside. The surface on the inside need a repaint. People say this doesn't work, but it does, as long as you remove all the bad parts. You do not remove the rusted parts the inside will keep rusting and going through the door appearing behind the paint again. But using filler does indeed works
@radionutio81ij79
@radionutio81ij79 7 жыл бұрын
Quite a good repair but being a rocker panel it has to be welded that hole has lost quite a lot of body strength, and filler and glass fiber cloth will not give that damaged point its full strength, any body panel doors boot bonnet and front wing panels can be repaired with filler but not the main safety cage locations and that was one of them, and any location within 12 inches of a safety belt point or sub frame mounting point. Any way with the amount of time taken to do that repair, it would have been quicker to plasma cut out the dead metal and weld in a patch making the repair stronger and longer lasting.

Remember, guys that this tutorial is for a home repair not for professional body men. From this vid and others like it I have learned that what has been described here will be of great help to me and if I do the job right then I can expect the repair to last me about two years. I'm cool with that and it means that I can do the job myself other than pay a panel shop a ton of money that is difficult to justify to repair a twenty year old car that cost me a grand to buy.

Wow, Supercheap is right, this is not how to repair rust as it will very quickly come back if you do this, also doing this to flip off a sh#t car to a new unsuspecting owner is not cool as they will be paying what appears to be a straight car not a rusty dunger. Those defending this method obviously know nothing about cars or give a toss about their safety, whats behind the area and what is left behind does matter as if you leave rust behind it will come and bite you in the ass when you least expect it.

Go to home depot and buy a metal mash it is very thin and it bends and it shapes like a butter, once you got the shape attached with small metal screws, but use a small metal bit and then screw it, bonded with the things you need and senddd down. Then the paint.

DKNOTX Lol the only thing that needs cutting is your hair...cutting it out doesnt mean shit the smallest rust can be spread in all directions no matter where the original rust is. Grinding it back and treating it first with rust protection is another way and more efficient, then thats when you can weld or fill the spots with fibre metal bog or bondo.

If your going to this please us fibreglass resin and hardener and fibreglass for surfboards! I used to use a welder, cardboard template, steel sheet according to the car. Cut it out , weld a sheet cut from template and grind. Then weld, deoxidine and filer no more than 1.5 mm. Textbook method is no more than 3mm. Sand . Undercoa and paint. Etc. I used to put tectyl rust prevention or rust converter in the sill and then rust prevention treatment .

To do a proper repair you have to completely remove all rust... And after you are done doing all the steps he just showed you you have to do the same steps on the other side of the panel. If you do not your molding will look very shitty and unprofessional. Car shows will often look in the wheel well for rusting and shitty fixes like this. If your going to repaint the body, please repaint inside AND out.
