One trick for anybody that wants to try an s curl at home. Apply it to the hair like you would your conditioner and don't comb it through. I apply mines with a color application brush around the most resistant areas then around I work it into the rest of my hair. If it's your first application apply it all over but if it's a touch up just apply the product to the roots at first then to the rest for a few minutes before you're ready to wash it out. I apply a lil water to it before I rinse just to make sure I get all the ends. This method helps prevent those straight or spiky end pieces and gives a more natural look and feel

That makes no sense. When applying chemicals to a client's hair, the skin around their hairline (around the entire head) should be protected with a petroleum jelly like substance. It normally comes in the kit if an individual were to apply it themselves. Otherwise, if you aren't careful, you can suffer from chemical burns, which will also happen if you leave it in too long.
