Comfortable for the rider but what about the horse. Not impressed by not pulling the pad up into the gullett to stop it stretching taut across the withers when rider gets on. I ride my criollo in a Wintec Western saddle. I have one of the very few crillos in the UK, bought her from Germany.

What is the difference between tightening up the cinch on the belly between behind the front legs? I feel like having it on the belly wouldnt be too comfortable

It's a great question! I also thought it was very different and Im sure my horses at home would not react well to it (but they aren't used to that!) It goes around the belly because of the way the saddle is designed. It just isn't possible to put it where we usually do. I also felt like it was similar to a camel saddle, you sit very high above the horse and have no contact with his back!

These horses are used to it though since its the traditional saddle and none of them seemed to mind the girth there.

Would you say that the Latigo is made of Rawhide or leather?

Great question! This one was more rawhide than leather. It was definitely not the same feeling as western saddles in the USA!

I don’t get how having that cinch back behind the sternum can work for a horse. Pressure on their guts? But there’s a lot I don’t know in life.

it's definitely odd and I know my horses would not approve. But somehow these horses seem used to it! Their saddle is also very high up off the horses back and it felt like riding on a camel more than it did riding a horse.

It’s still around the rib cage, not pressing into the organs like it would if it was farther back

The only way I can describe it is like riding in a camel saddle because your very high off the horses back and have no real contact with them! It’s very strange but an interesting thing to see how their culture rides.

Its quite common in South America for polo horses as well. For polo I can understand it because you don't want the mallet to tangle in their tails. For endurance I wasn't really seeing a purpose for tying up the tails but maybe for the "ranch work" its more relevant... I think a lot of it is just tradition as well!

. Que bosta de xergão. Carona muito grossa. Lombilho tá mais-ou-menos. [Poderia ser um basto (mais leve) ou um serigote (em desuso, muito pesado)] Pelegos pobres. A crina foi tosada curta demais; o animal precisa de uma franja que lhe faça alguma sombra. De resto está bem: cinchas, estribos, rédeas, freio, cabeçada, etc. Como gaúcho, passa, mas precisa melhorar.

This is not my horse or my saddle and equipment. This horse belongs to a well respected gaucho in Brazil. I borrowed his horse and his saddle and xergão for this horse only for the purposes of filming this video.
