Hey Lane thanks for the video! I've had a CVA Hunterbolt in my closet forEVER because I traded a brake job for it and all his supporting stuff. I've never fired a muzzleloader. Your video gives me confidence that I can now. I'll have to clean the barrel then head out to the shooting range. I have a lot to learn but this video helps. Keep it up kid! NEVER fire a projectile, bullet or arrow, into a hay bale! When cows eat the hay they may injest part or all of whatever you shot into the bale. Any farmer who has a cow with "hardware" is in for a big problem. If you shot into one of my hay bales, and I found oit about it, you would NEVER hunt my property again. You are the kind of person that makes it hard to get hunting permission.

@DerFiendr Also, you don't really need a "high powered rifle" to take down game efficiently. Let me put this in perspective: The round used in the extermination of the buffalo was a .45-70. A .45 caliber bullet with 70 grains of black powder. Nowadays we use a 50 caliber bullet and 100/150 grains of black powder. The .45-70 could drop buffalo. For the slow reload, if you can't hit a deer on the first shot, stay the hell out of my woods.

The only thing I would add is that the pellets have a darker end that needs to go toward the powder to make ignition more sure fire. Perhaps making a note that the primer is installed only when a shot is to be made, for safety reasons. Besides that, I think you did a fine job.

@JayByrd319 I wouldn't say that. Muzzleloaders are only around because of personal preference. They won't jam but the likelihood of a misfire is greater due to fouling of primers or damp powder. If you compare the same number of shots between a muzzleloader and a centerfire you'll notice the muzzleloader will misfire more. Also survivalist generally go for centrefire/rimfire, easier to carry ammunition, less change of powder fouling, less fuss. My 2 cents.

@kloneo In the area I live in, it is illegal to use a rifle for deer hunting, so during gun season I can either use a shotgun or a muzzleloader, so the price doesn't really matter. Also, a 50 caliber bullet is way more than enough to take down a deer. I have heard of people using a 17 HMR for deer hunting, although I would never go that small.

In your next video you might consider altering the ramming part when the bullet wasn't completely seated. This tapping or ramming impact may have an effect on the accuracy of the shot. I read somewhere to never let the ramrod break contact with the bullet all the way down. If the bullet isn't seated as far down as you want it, press a lot harder.
@lanefuller34 Жыл бұрын
I would say you are correct. Unfortunately when I uploaded this video I think I weighed about 130 and couldn't generate enough force to seat without a tap 😂

@01089441 I think what you're talking about is a part where I had to cut and patch together the video because of some issues that came up with it. Watch the leaves on the trees when it happened. I've been shooting too long to flinch ;)
@DaedalEVE11 жыл бұрын
Oh, the point I was getting at, with a flint lock you can do maybe 8 shots a minute with practice. So with this, I'd say 10 or 12 should be expected (since you're dealing with a primer, not power in a pan. And no need to use a patch cloth). But to do that you can't be so gentle.
@samiam6198 жыл бұрын

Can I use 1 powder pellet for plinking?
@Lanephotography222 Жыл бұрын
I am really not sure. Since two pellets are enough to send it hundreds of yards I don't think one would be an issue, but the danger would be if a projectile did not fully exit the barrel, and you fired again without realizing it, you could cause the barrel to explode. I would try searching for more information before you attempt that. If you DO try it, I would encourage you to verify the barrel was actually clear after each attempt.
@coytus946 жыл бұрын
I seen you used 2 pellets to load into the barrel. Is that normally how many you would use? I've never loaded a muzzleloader using pellets before, i learned how to load them using measured grain, a wad, and then your bullet, so i guess somewhat more of the "traditional" way so to speak.
@Lanephotography22212 жыл бұрын
That depends on how much powder you use...I've never had any problems with it even at 3 pellets (150 grains) but I guess it depends on the person. It has less kick than most 12 gauge loads I've used, so if those don't bother you, you'll be fine.
@Lanephotography22211 жыл бұрын
Precautionary methods, mostly. If you have excessive sweat or residue on your fingers it can cause issues with firing. Also, if the pellets are crushed unevenly, it can create problems with the timing and/or force distribution of the blast, which can lead to terrible inaccuracy or even dangerous malfunction. "Fuck it" isn't always the best policy.
@rick-ps5ct3 жыл бұрын
i think you should have shown how far the ramrod goes in barrel after you're sure gun is empty... and mark rod for a way to check if gun is loaded or empty...then on to reloading
@Lanephotography22213 жыл бұрын
@44magguy1 Now I would use three...I used two back then to decrease the recoil. The powerbelt bullets I use are pretty heavy, so I wouldn't be very confident about it's ability to travel far or flat with only one pellet behind it.

yes, the plastic creates the air tight seal in barrel. Replacing the cloth patch that was used with the round ball in the past.
@Lanephotography22212 жыл бұрын
1 : Problems firing properly, possibly blowing out your plug rather than the bullet 2 : Everything will either fly out or the bullets will hold the explosion in and either blow up the gun or blow out the plug 3 : Yeah, as long as it didn't get wet and wasn't stored in a humid place. A year should be fine, I wouldn't let it sit for too long though.

Good video but should show how to unload it and what to do if you get a miss fire
@Zaria37238 жыл бұрын
The only way to unload is to fire. If you get a miss fire, see if the primer has been struck, if so, try a new primer. If not, try firing again with same primer.
@randolphtolbert38258 жыл бұрын
To unload, remove the primer. Unscrew the breach plug. The pyrodex pellets will fall out. Take the rod and push the bullet out of the muzzle. Replace breech plug.

Modern muzzleloaders can shoot a Mini Ball bullet -assuming that you can find a bullet mould in the right calibre for the gun. Most gun manufacturers only manufacture inline style rifles in a 50 caliber anymore, and I have yet to see a Mini Ball mould in 50 cal. If you consider a newly built Hawken Rifle modern then Lyman makes a mould for a 54 cal, and a required twist rate of 1:48. My T/C Hawken would shoot this bullet, and the Lyman Trade Rifle, and Deerstalker would also shoot this bullet.
@cetate9314 жыл бұрын

Well by modernizing it you take all the craftsmanship and tradition that was put in the gun. I know for most it doesn't matter but it looks good and you also get a feeling of pride in the weapon in its traditional background and carvings depending on the rifle. But your entitled to your opinion lad so its your choice. I still find it funny however that their using those modern bullet and this is the first time ive heard of those powder things you used.
