Got a nasty stain on the inside of your Le Creuset? Here is out you remove it, or at least lighten it up to a point you are comfortable with without using bleach or any harsh chemicals. How how light the stain gets is going to largely be up to how much work you want to do and how much additional wear you'd like to inflict upon your cookware! I'd recommend going with the hydrogen peroxide + baking soda method, but if you'd prefer the Bar Keepers Friend you can get it here: amzn.to/2jSUwVY .
A deep dive into Le Creuset cracks is available here: bit.ly/2A23iyW .

tried everything - best product for a really stained le Cresuet is OXYCLEAN mixed with HOT water, then boiled for a few minutes. Let sit for several hours until cool (COVERED). Works great (may have to repeat to remove further stains if badly stained). NO BLEACH

After watching this video, I felt hopeless that I could recover a pan with deep staining. In desperation, I filled the 3-qt pan half with water, added 3 tbsp concentrated bleach, and set on low heat. After two hours I went to check on the progress, and was stunned to see the pan looked like new. I dumped the water out thinking I would be able to detect stains - but nothing. I was so relieved.

@@ZoeRoseHamilton Glad to help! :) Actually if you dont raise the temperature of the water, the bleach will evaporate more slowly out of the water so it *may* work better - hard to say. Normally boiling water evaporates the bleach quickly - but either way glad it worked out. I did that with mine recently. Filled it with about 1/4 cup of bleach and the rest filled to the top with water. Let it soak for 2 hours which did the trick. I then rinsed like 5-6 times to make sure all bleach is gone. I wish there was a more friendly way to do it but hey, once every few months, I dont mind doing this :)

About 1-2 tbsp of dishwasher powder (such as cascade), add hot water to above the stain line, fully dissolve the soap the let sit for several hours or overnight. I do this every once in a while to keep my pot nice and white and it works super well without any scrubbing. A heavily stained pot like in this video you may need to repeat once, but it should still work quite well.

Bro, you used baking powder, NOT baking soda. They are completely different. I put the pan onto the simmer with water and baking soda (no hydrogen peroxide) and it works well. Finish it up with a sprinkling of Bar Keepers friend (powder) and a scotch brite. If the pot is just stained, a bit of OxyClean and water and soak overnight (don't put it on the stove).

I think the problem is that you've scrubbed away the top coating of enamel. I did exactly the same with my first Dutch oven and the staining only got worse over time. I take better care of the replacement and never burn or scorch food in the le Creuset, using All-Clad Hard-Anodized or regular cast iron if I need to sear. Also, use only wood or plastic utilizes, clean with mild soap and water and I never take a scouring pad to the cookware. My oldest piece is now about six years old and looks like it did the day I purchased it.

I had a thick layer of burnt crud on the whole bottom of my Le Creuset pot and I took to the internet to see how to fix it. I found the boiling water/baking soda post and tried it. First sprinkled baking soda over the burnt crust. Then poured boiling water over it and stirred, then turned on the gas to rather low to keep it simmering for 15 minutes. Turned off the heat and let it sit till it cooled, then dumped it out. Some of the crust of burnt gunk actually came off but not much. I repeated the treatment 5 times, scraping with a wooden implement between times. It finally did all come off. Persistence is the solution.

I made some overnight steel cut oats in my well stained enameled pot. When I reheated the oats the next morning, I got distracted, walked away, and a lot of the oats stuck to the bottom of the pot - though they didn’t burn. After I emptied the pot, I set it aside for a few hours and the film of oatmeal that stuck to the bottom of the pot dried and hardened like glue. As I scraped out the hardened ‘oat glue’ with a credit card, I noticed that it lifted out most of those dark stains as if they were bound to each other. Perhaps the protein in the oats had something to do with it.

I had the same results as you. I got the idea that OxiClean might work. I heated up water to the boiling point, turned off the heat, and added some OxiClean. After three soakings, the stains are greatly improved. I'm going to keep going with additional soakings until they're gone. Agree with other commenters that the name of your video could be revised to "how to lighten stains". As it is now, it gives the impression that you're going to tell us how to remove them. I haven't tried the dishwasher powder that another commenter suggested, although it sounds as plausible as OxiClean.

One reason liquid Bartender's Friend is effective is that it contains a mild acid. I would soak the stain by using powdered citric acid added to your water. It cuts through lime deposits easily. Like you mentioned, something acid sat on that 'clean' spot. I've added 1 to 3 tablespoons to my dish water and the stubborn stuff simply dissolves away. Just be careful not to soak the exposed metal on the rim.

i use comet cleanser. it has bleach. wet the pan. coat with comet cleanser. let it stand until it is dry. this gives the bleach time to whiten. once it is dry, rinse it with warm water and very gently scrub. if you use abrasive cleansers to hard you will scrap off the porcelain. if some thing is burned in it, boil the pan with plain water until it easily scraps off with a plastic utensil. this will clean white sinks also. let the bleach have a chance to work.

@Rundlead

Hi Sal, this is the recommended way to clean brown spots from the inside of your Le Creuset dutch oven. This info was pulled directly from the FAQ on le Creuset's website: "For normal wear-and-tear, Le Creuset offers cast iron and stainless steel cookware cleaners. To prevent staining, use only medium or low heat settings. However, stains will occur with use, and we recommend filling a pot with one part enzyme laundry detergent and three parts water. Boil for ten minutes, let cool and discard solution. Wash the pot with regular dish detergent, rinse and dry. To restore your pot’s sheen, apply a light coat of white vinegar."

@joycevillano755
@joycevillano755 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, using Comet on a Le Creuset pot will take the finish off because it is abrasive, resulting in stains forming within the scratched off surface. Never use anything abrasive on a Le Creuset pot or pan pan including metal utensils because they will also scratch the surface of these pots causing stains to remain in the scratched surface. I only use silicone utensils on my Le Creuset pots, and they are over 30 years old, and still look brand new.

I'm repeating this comment I made at the bottom of this video, so that everyone can see it. The good news is that Le Creuset has a lifetime warranty on their pots. A friend told me that his daughter had sent them a pot she bought in a yard sale that was totally black on the bottom and they sent her a completely new pot, even though she had no paper work, and she was not the original owner. I couldn't believe it, so I opened up a case by calling their number. I sent back an oval Dutch Oven, a circular Dutch Oven, and a 12 inch frying pan, all of which were over fifty years old, and for which I had no sales receipt nor any other documentation. I can date the age of the pots because they were part of a gift set given to me for my engagement. All of them were blackened on the bottom from years of cooking. Plus, I never made any attempt to clean them. Because of the substantial weight, the postage was fairly expensive to mail them to Le Creuset (in the US). Nonetheless, while it took a while, eventually I received three brand new pots as replacement. These pots sell for hundreds of dollars today. A few months later, I sent them another Dutch Oven which was browned on the bottom. No big deal. but I figured, what the hell, let me see if they'll replace this one too.Well, they did. Again, it took awhile, but I got a brand new pot. Amazing!

You are not supposed to use the hard part of the sponge because the enamel will get lots of scratches that you can't see but food will eventually burn there and make it even darker. Also don't leave acidic food in there too long, like tomato sauce (spaghetti) since acidic food will eat away the smooth surface of the enamel and make it dull. A dull enamel simply makes things stick to it way more easily.

I think you are getting a lot of downvotes because the title doesn't really reflect what is in the video. The title gives the impression that you are going show people how to clean a stained Le Creuset enamel pot. But then... whatever you are doing - by your own standards - does not really work; so I guess, people feel bated by the title, but then let down by the content of the video...? So, maybe change the title? "My failed attempts to clean a Le Creuset enameled pot safely...?" Idk. Just a thought. : )

I have many LeCreuset items and do not see any point in cleaning them brutally. What doesn't go off with warm water and dish liquid stays. It is nothing harmful.

I have multiple LeCreuset pan, and they are all ''stained'' at the bottom. It is driving me crazy. I've tried all methods. Something isn't right it's not like we are cooking at a few thousand degrees, and for the price, don't you want to have a spotless surface to work with? We shouldn't have to clean them brutally if it was actually quality first. I have 2 skillets 1 big pot and 1 small creuset pot. All less than a year, and they look severly used. Couldn't resell whatsoever as brand new, and yet, a lot of people claim they are good for all their lives? I hope a company starts to think about the consumers, at 200$+ a skillet, we are getting laughed in our faces.

I don't get the obsession with these pots. They're expensive and I've never seen one that doesn't look gross after a few years. And now we know they're impossible to clean. So yeah, I'll pass.

The important point you appear to miss is 'after a few years'. Ours is twenty plus years old and gets used 3 or 4 times a week. I bake bread in it, my wife cooks casseroles and stews etc in it. It is in much better condition than the one shown and never fails to perform. Would you expect a tool, used for years, NOT to show some wear and tear?

Sorry but 15 minutes, are you for real? At least 2-4 hours (minimum) boiling, simmering. And try to use washing soda (it's stronger).

Sal Fair enough. Although we never used peroxide & baking soda combination, I definitely positive about the cleaning effect of the washing soda. And to be honest our enameled cookware is 40+ yo and it's still white & glossy, just sayin'. :-)

@@saalkz.a.9715 what ratio of washing soda to water do you use?
@saalkz.a.9715

@@rodlewis8562 depends on how stained it is, but I would say 3-8 (big)Tbs for every cup (250ml) of water (the solution should be strong). Keep in mind that the water (soda solution) level should be always at least 2 inches (5cm) above the stain (level); oh and don't forget to cover it with a lid!

No good way? water with baking soda or vinegar work just fine. You're also pronouncing the "le" in Le Creuset incorrectly.

I'm French and you're wrong. The "le" is correct; the "s" in "creuset" should be pronounced as a "z" but it's very rude to correct a non-native on their pronunciation except in language class.

Try olive oil and chain mail; and keep the metal covered in oil. Who is the idiot that started this hydrogen peroxide and heat idea.
@lanceroark6386
@lanceroark6386 Жыл бұрын
Rust is a base. Hydrogen peroxide is an acid. The baking soda does nothing more than react with the Hydrogen peroxide (or vinegar) so that the rust can’t. Rust is a product of oxidation. To prevent oxidation, keep oil on your cast iron. When you’re cleaning it, use oil to prevent rust from returning; and leave a film of oil on the cast iron to prevent rust between uses.
