A good friend of mine found herself trapped in her car last week submerged in a flash flood. I’m still in disbelief over it all. Sadly she didn’t make it, but I’m doing my best to educate myself on what to do if I were in her shoes. Thank you for these tips. I wish I could’ve shared them with the people I love sooner I can’t imagine how she must have felt. RIP Makayla 🌻💛

So sorry for your loss. Such a terrifying situation
@alwaysyouramanda2 жыл бұрын
I’m so sorry! Most deaths apparently occur in cars during a flood. Once you are submerged, it’s impossible to open the door because of the pressure of the water pressing against it. You need to open the windows and get out ASAP.

I think the message here is to be mindful of your situation because the best way to manage risk is to see it as it emerges, and respond proactively by prioritizing first, whenever an emergency does arise. Good message!
@alwaysyouramanda2 жыл бұрын
Shocked they don’t mention the statistics. If you die in a flash flood, chances are very high it was because you were trapped in your car. The pressure won’t let you open the door. If you don’t get out, you will have to wait for your car to completely fill. You are not safe inside- it’s an anchor and it’s pressurized. With electric windows, the water will likely short them out. The sooner you get those windows down, the better.

Of course, the lifejacket he was wearing put him at a completely different advantage than anyone else in that situation, which makes me think; wouldn't it be excellent if our back seat had a way to store safety jackets (for those 'just in case moments' that we will probably NEVER need), or any and all kinds of safety needs? It may sound so ridiculous, but I could see myself keeping them on hand!

Should have called it how to get out of a tethered car in 3 foot of water, in a controlled environment and swim to safety wearing a life jacket.
