Thank you Michelle. I have searched YT and internet and you hands down have the safest, most informative instructions. I am 47 and just had a full hysterectomy and consider myself an “exerciser”. I am 2 weeks post op and am itching to do something bc I feel great- almost normal, but I know I need to wait. I will definitely comb all of your videos to create a starting plan. MOOOOO!!!! Lol! Thank you so much for all you do. ❤️

I had been practicing the wide low squat (though unable to have the whole foot on the ground) because another channel for over 50 year olds said it’s a must do stretch. I had a hysterectomy a few months ago and dealing with pelvic floor issues. I never thought to ask the dr about that particular stretch/pose. Only restriction he said was no heavy lifting. Me and my pelvic floor thank you.

Dear Michelle, thank you very much for your helpful video. I had my hysterectomy in March 10th 2020 and unfortunately no one recommended me to do pelvic floor exercises until about 2 weeks ago :( When I got strong enough to start doing yoga (1st May) I started very gently and with light beginner postures, but I had no precautions in modifying any. Out of the postures you describe in this video I did the unmodified forward bend, and the unmodified planks (on my hands and forearms). Is it too late to start modifying the poses now? also, at some point you talk about pelvic floor problems, could you explain what problems exactly you are referring to? also, is it too late for the pelvic floor exercises you recommend in other videos? Thank you!!

HI Michelle, I've jist started teaching yoga and I ha e a student who has a prolapse. I read an article today that says she ever we draw in the abdominals in addition to breathing we should be lifting the pelvic floor to avoid placing extra strain on that area. Can you confirm whether this is true for someone with a pelvic prolapse. Any other tips or suggestions greatly appreciated. Also what is the best position to do pelvic strengths ing exercises. Oftentimes you see these performed from bridge pose in a yoga class but I just read that we should be softening the glutes when we do pelvic floor strengthening and you would need to engage the glutes in bridge pose. It is better just to be sitting or lying on your back? TIA! Dani
@michellephysio
@michellephysio 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniela good questions thank you! It's really too much to expect many women with prolapse to activate their pelvic floor muscles during Yoga poses as many have pelvic floor dysfunction and can't activate their pelvic floor correctly. The pelvic floor should be strong enough to withstand the exercises/poses they do. I think appropriate exercise selection for them is far more important along with regular pelvic floor training which of course can be incorporated into dedicated pelvic floor exercises during the class. Yes the glutes should stay relaxed with pelvic floor exercises; many women mistake glute contraction with pelvic floor contraction which is entirely incorrect. Yes keep pelvic floor exercises to lying, sitting and standing as you suggest so that women understand how to do this exercise correctly. Keep bridging for strengthening the glutes which is one of the main reasons for doing this pose. Hope this adequately explains for you and your clients, keep up your good work!

Research hypopressive breathing technique. When pulling the navel in towards the spine as you mention or sucking in the abs (and on exertion) you should be exhaling to reduce pressure in the abdomen not inhaling.

Found your channel absolutely wonderful I am about 10 weeks post hysterectomy and major prolapse repair surgery. I have sutures attached to my ligaments that will be dissolving by May. Fearing . If I don’t strengthen those muscles that the pelvic floor will not stay intact after my sutures dissolve Definitely need to strengthen them. Are there any Yoga exercises available for me? Thank you again.🙏🙏🙏🥰

@cindyalexis616 Hi there, I hope you’re recovering well. I really need to make a vid featuring pelvic floor friendly Yoga poses because there is definitely risk in some of them as you can see from this video. Full healing takes at least 3 months and thereafter the risk of repeat prolapse is increased so allow your body to fully heal before recommencing Yoga. Meanwhile I’ll get some filming done on this important topic, thanks so much for prompting me on this, best wishes to you 🙏

Too early to do exercises after a tummy tuck Pearl - seek your doctor's advice for when it's safe to return to abdominal exercises, I would think that walking would be the most that would be advised at the moment but please check to be sure

@michellephysio
@michellephysio Жыл бұрын
@NaomisMovies1 Hello, your body is healing internally for the next 3 months. Post-op healing can be deceiving because your wound will usually look healed from the outside but it’s not healed fully internally. I strongly recommend against doing shoulder stand and any intense Yoga poses following mesh repair.

@michellephysio
@michellephysio 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tessa this won't be a uterine prolapse as the uterus is removed during the hysterectomy. Perhaps the top of the vagina has descended and this needs to be assessed by a medical practitioner or Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist and then managed accordingly. Yes it's a good idea to modify some Yoga poses after hysterectomy or with to reduce the load on the pelvic floor too, all the best!

Hi i had watched another video of yours. Another question do i have to do modified ab exercises permanently now that i have a hysterectomy. Can i do squats? Is it only abs? Can i do butt bridges? Im 35yrs old and want to get back into shape but i had no idea about any of this modified exercises until i was doing planks and on my second day my surgery area was too sore to do planks. Can i do lunges? How do i modify them if im not able to? I had my hysterectomy september 2019. Will i ever be able to do the normal exercises again?
@michellephysio
@michellephysio 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, good questions! What you can do ultimately depends on how well your pelvic floor muscles are working. Most women can safely do lunges, avoid heavily weighted deep wide squats, bridges are great glute exercises and these can be safely weighted by most women post hysterectomy
@GoddessWoman1
@GoddessWoman1 4 жыл бұрын
How long do you need to modify after hysterectomy?? I'm 6weeks post surgery and would like to start going to classes at some point.
@michellephysio
@michellephysio 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, full internal healing takes around 3 months. First get the approval of your surgeon to return to general exercises and then take care especially during the healing time frame. If your pelvic floor is weak you may need to modify the exercises you choose long term to minimise your risk of prolapse long-term all the best
