This was me. Full abdominal hysterectomy to remove a 1kg fibroid 6 months ago. I was told it was the size of a 24 week fetus. Was in a world of pain for the first few days. Got the all clear 6 weeks post op and was back to caring for my disabled 12-year-old who has limited mobility. My husband did as much of the heavy lifting as he could but when he was at work it was up to me. I’m now 6 months post op and my mid section still feels a bit numb and distended. 😢 It feels like a long, slow road to recovery.

I was the same way. I’m 35 and got a total hysterectomy. I would say the only thing that was uncomfortable was waiting for the gas that’s put in you to go away. Luckily I was warned before hand by a friend about it, if not it would have scared me but went away pretty quickly with gentle stretches and moving.

I’m just over 3 weeks post op I had a hysterectomy on 18th December 2023, removed the uterus, tubes and ovaries and I think the cervix. It was set to be Laparoscopic and it did start out as that but as soon as they got in the Surgeon had to cut through a mass of scarring and adhesions to even see the uterus. I’ve always thought I had endometriosis and I’m sure that’s caused many adhesions plus in 1996 my appendix burst with Peritonitis and Gangrene and I had no antibiotics after the surgery. I quickly found I had massive adhesions which fused my bowel, bladder and uterus together and in 1999 I had my first laparotomy to strip them out, from navel to pubic bone. So back to this December just gone, the surgeon stripped out the adhesions,removed all the hysterectomy bits and just as he was about to close he noticed a small perforation of the bowel. So a General Surgeon was bleeped and I had my second laparotomy he spent several hours stripping out a complete mass of adhesions and scarring and they checked every inch of the bowel to ensure there was no other wound. I came round in the recovery suite to a sea of worried faces looking down at me. They told me what had happened briefly but because I was only at a gynaecology unit they needed to transfer me by ambulance to the nearest major hospital to Critical Care. The Paramedics took great care and said I wasn’t to worry but they would be going fast and on blue lights and sirens. I must have looked worried because the nurse who was coming too said, oh don’t worry they’re just doing that because it’s rush hour. Rush hour? I went into surgery at 12oclock lunchtime… I’d had a 5 hour surgery . I spent 5 days in Critical Care and then two days on the ward before coming home in time for Christmas. 10 days post op the District Nurses came to take the staples out.ll I lost count after 25! Unfortunately the wound started to open up a bit and was oozing rather a lot. I already knew I had a urine infection as I have bladder problems and often get infections so knew the signs. They felt the wound might be infected but it needed looking at in case it needed stitches. The Gynaecologist I saw felt it was ok to leave it alone but to be redressed and checked daily by the District Nurse and they’d see me in a week. The one thing I was struggling with was opening my bowels, I have IBS so it’s often a struggle but they said use the La I do sachets we don’t want you straining at all not even a bit. So I’ve been taking a sachet a day nd was going nicely but for some reason I’ve not been able to go now since Tuesday night when I last went. I’ve tried all my usual tricks, glycerin suppositories eating chocolate, using my “squatty potty step”….it’s usually great at working I recommend it to anyone you can get it from Amazon! Nothings working the Nurse today suggested taking two sachets which I’m a bit loathe to do as it can give you tummy ache and I’ve got enough of that right now. If anyone else has struggled like this and has any tips I’d be grateful, right now I’d stand on my head if I thought it would help!!

I’m doing ok the wound is mostly healed now apart from the piece in the bikini line, it was the bit which opened up the most so it’s taking a while to heal. Thanks for the Prune juice tip! I’m not a lover of the juice but I’ve been chomping on dried prunes which I don’t mind and of course chocolate always works😉and I’ve also got Malt bread which I really enjoy and I’ve always found bananas help too, a lot of people say they will bung you up but I find the opposite. Monday the District Nurse came and put the Urethra catheter in until I’ve healed enough to have a Suprapubic one…. I should have been going for the Pre op this Thursday but I’ve postponed it for now to give my body time to recover.

I'm looking for the limitations for mom activities like: At how many weeks post-off can a mom take the risk of needing to run after their toddler who darts off in the parking lot? when can she push a shopping cart with 80 pounds of kids and groceries? When can she go on a 4-mile hike with hills, etc? How can she lift a laundry basket without popping her ligaments that were just sewn back on? What exercises are best prior to a hystorectomy?

Me too, it's been 2 months now. my doctor told me not to excercise yet, for the next 2months, and not do anything that increases pain- for example not to bend forward, if I need to pick something, just squat delicately with my back and belly straight. I'm advised to walk a lot, especially in nature or a park. That's the only "exercise" im allowed to do. I'm healing well but I still feel pain here and there constantly and discomfort. I still can't sleep on my side - it feels everything is moving inside, so its only comfy on my back. I think I overdid too early by doing some chores at home or maybe my body is very delicate. Its worth considering that after hysterectomy intestine has more space so everything needs to find its new place inside.

I had a robotic hysterectomy done 6 days ago with a small c section. I don't understand how I am experiencing intense pain in both of my arms. I am in such extreme pain that is driving me crazy!! I don't understand how both of my arms hurt this much and not pain at all in my abdominal area where the surgery happened. It is so awful that I take pain meds for the surgery, and my arms pain doesn't go away.

It could be the gas they blow you up with. Not to scare you but I know someone who ended up with massive cancer after a robot assisted surgery because of how the robot throws cells around inside as it's chopping up the uterus to get it out. It may be rare but please get yourself checked out regularly.

IF the doctor removes the cervix it makes recovery to sport a bit more complicated due to the risk of prolapse of the intestines through the vagina. One of my biggest worries and paranoia was recovery and what I was able to do and when I could safely do things. Take it slow and easy, just because the doctor has cleared you doesn't mean you're free to return to exercise and rigorous sport. IS it safe to do abdominal strengthening core exercises a year post hysterectomy? OR is it something to just stay away from for life?

How do you recover when your wheelchair bound? Any suggestions? I haven’t had mine yet because everyone talks about walking afterwards to reduce blood clots and I am a little hesitant to move forward.
@sarahyates6055
@sarahyates6055 Жыл бұрын
Hi I’m not wheelchair bound but have limited mobility and in October 2022 I had multiple blood clots in both lungs so they knew I was high risk. I’m just over 3 weeks post op and as you’ll see on my post I had a 5 hour surgery with some complications. I was 5 days in critical care where I think I got as far as sat out in a chair for an hour one day but my blood pressure kept dropping really low so I was just in bed all the time, they kept the catheter in all the time as I have problems anyway and my husband has to catheterise me at home. I had heparin injections twice a day whilst I was in hospital and then for 28 days after I came home still twice a day, I’ve got o injections left to do. Obviously everyone is different but they showed me how to do them and they are easy enough. You can do them either in the stomach below the navel or in your thighs. The trick I’ve found is to push the plunger I slowly that way you don’t get that awful stinging feeling as it goes in and you don’t bruise as much. You will get a bit of bruising and of course you will bleed easily so you need to tell anyone that you’re on them before medical or dental treatment. The other thing is if it does sting don’t rub it to try and stop it, you actually make it worse and you’ll get a bigger bruise. I hope if you’ve had your surgery you’re doing well and if not then I wish you all the best. Despite mine being a bit of a horror story it was through no fault of the surgeons, they were amazing and the level of care I had was the best. I’m still glad I had it done there’s no regrets.

Gynaecologist are doing hysterectomies for totally benign reasons. You do not need one for fibroids, cysts or heavy bleeding or endometriosis. They are on a mass castration programme 1 in 3 in USA alone. Disgusting. Hysterectomy is an atrocity to women on mass. Higher rates of osteoarthritis, pelvic nerve damage, depression, heart disease, wrecks body shape. Has she had one??? Cruel. Only required for confirmed cancer. But gynaecologist lie on mass for more clients. Research HERS Foundation to see the truth.
