Most people will find out over a period of time that the open MRS/DRT system is the only way to go. Most people r usually familiar with a tether & the ability it gives u to set it to the perfect length. I have a lanyard which is nice attached to the left side of my hip. I bound it up into a little ball with a stretch cord around it. I didn't use it once last year hunting. Most of the time if I need to tie into the 🌳 to stay on the right side of the 🌳 & move around branches I always use a tether to allow me to adjust my open system around a branch. A lanyard is something that I use when up in the 🌳 with a saw & only then. I like to put a carabiner on a prusik on my lanyard to cinch down my lanyard in the tree since im never climbing a tree with spikes. I do attach my tether to a 2nd redundant bridge that is tied into my saddle & it is a double 8mm oplux which is adjustable. It sits below my main webbed bridge & i dont even notice it is there until i need to tether into it. Covering all the angles with 2 bridges I found is the safest & quickest way to not waste time in a tree when time😮 is of the essence.

Scott & Joe, another great video! If guys incorporate this into their climbing system, they have a viable backup even if their stand fails. I was hunting in Alabama a while back and my buddy Ken’s third climbing stick let go as he grabbed onto the fourth one. He managed to chin himself up to the stand but coming down he had to hang with just his toes touching the top of his second stick! He was lucky it could have ended very badly for him! Now he carries a 30-foot rope and a figure eight in his pouch just in case!👍

If you climb using sticks or a climbing tree stand long enough you will have a close call. I had several when I was young . My F4 system is something I’d like everyone to check out. Staying safe should be every hunters 1st priority. thanks Bud !!!

Gentlemen, Thanks for an outstanding video. You mentioned several key points that we need to keep in mind. A tree near bedding, travel routes and offering easy observation of a field caught my attention this past season; and the limbs are so numerous that I avoided tackling it. You’ve convinced me to place a preset in it before spring foliage appears. I have the split tail in case I overheat the knot; and now I’ll put the split tail to better use. I’ve been carrying climbing webbing and a figure 8 for emergencies; and your redundancy/self rescue package sounds preferable. We appreciate your solutions for safer, more effective hunting.

Funny you mentioned that....lost the foot platform of my loggy bayou years ago, and got stuck on the hand climber. But was using a tree climbing harness, hand Asender and 30' of 11mm rope. Had to let go....harness/ Asender caught me. Was able to slowly decend the rope, recovered the foot platform and went back up. Thank God for the 30' of rope....or I'd have been stuck good.

Another question: What rope are you using with the splittail? What rope should I buy at your shop for this method/system?

JHW , We use a split tail in combination with our 3/8 Sterling Super Static and HTP Ropes . These are both static ropes primarily used for SRT climbing. The 8mm split tail tied in a Blake’s hitch makes it possible to climb in a DRT fashion as well. We also use a 8mm Eye to Eye hitch cord and a CT Roll n lock to tend the hitch. Plus if you add a hand ascender and foot loop it makes for some easy one handed ascending. With either of these universal ropes you can make it a basic DRT system or implement a few more accessories depending on your agility or mobility
