Ok - so I tried your method of sanding down first before spraying and I loved it. Another advantage is that it saves on sandpaper, too. Sanding on the filler primer really would gunk up my sandpaper. This was was much better!

I absolutely love your videos, started watching all of them and even wrote down a sanding instruction set which at the end is the smoothest plastic I ever did. I am stuck on your painting video though. I am making a sword for the first time and I want to make the sword look like actual chrome metal. I’m a little lost on what to use. Should I use a black primer then spray a high gloss black then chrome spray paint? What would you suggest with painting the sword to make it look like metal chrome. I also was going to try some graphite powder when it was all done. What do you suggest??

I prefer Polyester Glazing Putty. (evercoat in the can) It comes with hardener like regular body filler. It's very easy to spread, dries fast and sands really easy. Edit: Also, I always use guide coat after priming. You take some black spray paint and lightly spray over the primer. Basically a dust coat. This will show where you haven't sanded or places that aren't sanded enough. Like some layer lines that you might have missed.
@kevinvolo52082 жыл бұрын
Oh. That sounds cool. I'll have to try it. Thanks.

Are you still planning on making a video for installing a voice amplification system for this helmet? We’re looking to do the same but we’re unsure how exactly to go about it for a helmet like this. Thanks for everything you do!!

To save myself from days of sanding, i used thin layers of UV Resin mixed with baby powder, and brushed it on in very thin layers, cured with a UV lamp, lightly sanded to find the spots that didn't fill in and reapply another layer, and then sanded with 400 and 500 grit wet sanding. to smooth out to a perfect finish. Literly took days off of sanding and resanding after putting on filler primer. Which can take 4 to 5 days of doing all that if you want everything perfect. With the resin and baby powder, I can do it all within 2 to 3 days for everything Including the prime, and final paint coat, maybe a day more if I'm doing a complicated paint job.

Sanding first will give a better mechanical adhesion. Then the fillers and paint will stick better. 👍👍💯💯👍👍

Hi Kevin- can you sand indoors with a mask on? Or would you always suggest just doing it outdoors? And how long would you say all the sanding takes in total? Thank you
@3DPrintedProps2 жыл бұрын
You can sand indoors, just know it makes A LOT of plastic dust. So if you could have a vent that sucks it outside that would be best. It depends on how smooth the surface is, but I would estimate a good 20 minutes per grit.

@3DPrintedProps2 жыл бұрын
Awesome, hope it helps. Check out the red hood series too. You can use an orbital sander, I have. You just need to be careful to to keep it in one place too long and not bear down too hard or you will melt/damage the helmet.

I hear that screeching noise with the 80 grit as I move across the lines. Do you keep sanding until you can't hear that noise or just enough to rough up the surface? Thank you!

The only thing I think it could be is you're not adding enough hardener, or maybe temperature and humidity.
