I just used this step by step, had to figure out a few things that weren't options for me but maybe it was just my MAC laptop. Either way I think I still did it...can't thank you enough! Trying to get old childhood DVD's that were made off original VHS type tapes onto this DVD saved electronically somewhere. Thanks so much for such a thorough tutorial.

Great and informative. Concerning the below reply about “no… /usr/local/lib” file location on Mac’s with M1, I have a 2017 MacBook Air w/ Intel and I had the same issue, couldn’t find that path anywhere. I did have /usr/local and it had a lot of “lib” type files. I just created a “lib” file pathed after local and it worked.

Did you get the pop up to allow the lib file to work? I did what was instructed but no pop up came when I opened handbrake

So grateful for this!!! Back in the day you didn't need this intermediary software to decrypts DVDs. My decade old iPod died and with it all my golden era Simpsons episodes that were ripped from DVDs via Handbrake over 15 years ago. Until I found this video I was baffled why the new MP4s were coming out all scrambled. Mystery solved!

I can’t get passed the download decrypter/file location.. I clicked the download link on my Mac and then waited a minute and then checked the file with usr and it wouldn’t come up when I typed in the /usr/local/lib. Any help?

Great Video! but it isn't working for me. I have a MacBook Pro Max M1 and am somewhat new to the Mac world, so I had to create the lib folder and copied the file there. I never got the prompt I saw in the video after the first prompt about scanning. Will it not work if I had Handbrake installed first then downloaded the file and placed it in the newly created lib folder?

Hello. I do not have a folder as you described. I did however have success ripping and saving a dvd, Young Frankenstein, last night before I downloaded the Decrypter . Using Handbrake

Thanks for making this video. I got the DVD drive and tried doing the steps that you suggested. The audio playback on my Mac is choppy and when I plug the external drive into my android-based projector, the file isn’t there. Are you available for hire? I called several IT companies offering personal support to no avail.

I have 5 DVDs I’m trying to rip. 2 worked using this method, the other three don’t. They are either stuck on the menu screen, or the picture quality looks choppy like a damaged VHS (when it looks fine in the regular video player app)

This is a very well done instructional video, but I haven't succeeded in copying my DVD because I couldn't get past the "cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" message. I see you address this in your reply to Oc Face Paint, but the additional instructions didn't help me. Can you please detail how to do step 3 "copy and paste"? Meantime, I'm wondering if it's possible that a DVD simply cannot be copied. The DVD is a video someone did of an eight minute presentation of mine and I can only watch it once. To watch it again, I have to eject and reload. FYI, I'm on a MacBook Air OS Monterey 12.3.1 and the DVD files are "VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.IFO VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_1.VOB VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.VOB Thanks in advance for any guidance you can share.

Still can't get it to work. I'm using Apple silicon (Mac mini with M1 chip). There was already a usr/local/lib file which I guess is weird since it doesn't exist for most with Apple silicon? Anyway, I installed the decryptor there in the lib file. Already had Handbrake installed. No warning popup about the decryptor from Mac. Tried a bunch of DVDs and they're all still blurry or have sound removed etc. Help please?

I appreciate all the effort but it never did work for me. Using am M1 Mac and yes I followed the additional info for where to paste the file. I never was able to see my disk in Handbreak after that or before any modifications.

When I open Handbrake, with my DVD in and DVD drive plugged in, the DVD drive doesn't come up on the left hand. I tried it with an external harddrive plugged in and that didn't show up either. My mac doesn't even seem to recognise the DVD drive at all. Can anyone help?

Have you tried opening finder. Then clicking the top left on the word finder. Click settings. And make sure the “external disks” option has a blue check mark. I couldn’t find my ssd for the life of me until I was just messing around with settings. And make sure the option for “cds, dvd’s, and iOS devices” has a check mark next to it?

***APPLE SILICON USERS*** To install the decryptor: 1. Navigate to /usr/local/ using "Go to Folder" in finder 2. Right-click and create a new folder and call it "lib" (without quotations) 3. Copy and paste the decryptor into this "lib" folder
