@@growinggreenthumbs7497 Same basic question: It's February 4th and I live in a cold winter area. My rose is inside until late spring. It has root rot in two of the above soil roots. I will pull the plant out of the soil and cut off the diseased roots. But then what should I do, just leave it out of soil to dry until spring, then trim back branches and repot in fresh pot and fresh soil mix?

Hi, thank-you for your videos. I have only just recently started buying adeniums and I had to buy them from a different state because they don't have them here in Melbourne. So I asked for them to be sent out bare rooted. I have repotted them and finding that some are not doing too well. Some the leaves are yellowing and also look like brown marks on them too. I have not been overwatering them. Do you think they are just transplant shock? Do you recommend watering them with Epsom salt? I heard that it can help.
@growinggreenthumbs7497
@growinggreenthumbs7497 2 жыл бұрын
Hi yes seems like transplant shock but can’t say for sure. I would not worry about the leaves dropping, that is normal in climate change. If it is not too dry then I would wait a week before you start watering. Best of luck.

Hi I made a soil mix video if you want to search on my channel. For the soft roots, you can uproot from the soil and let it dry out for about a week. Then when you repot it, don’t water immediately. I would wait another week.

It certainly is trial and error but I would dry for longer. I have done even 3-4 weeks before potting. Just make sure you maintain light moisture in the soil and even let that dry out. Hope that helps and best of luck!

Hey Ana- if you cut the rot off- I find it does good to let the roots soak in 50/50 hydrogen peroxide for 30 minutes and then let let it dry for 2 weeks before trying to repot again. The peroxide will kill bacteria and helps the plant to heal much faster.

Ordered 150+ adenium seeds from Taiwan, my babies. Out of control growth all summer. Have them on sheet trays outside and just went away for 5 days. Asked my neighbor "remnants of Hurricane Ida are coming in can u please move them under the umbrella and check if the trays have water it might hit us it might not." Came back to them soaking in water. Just went through first tray and majority have some form of rot. Some have tiny spots others are in bad shape. A long time ago my adult adenium had stem rot. All I did was spray with disease control and it saved the plant. Do I HAVE to scoop every soft brown spot?
@growinggreenthumbs7497
@growinggreenthumbs7497 Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear. You don’t have to get all the spots and may get lucky. Some areas may just dry out and recover on their own. Hope you can save as many as you can. Luckily the younger seedling sizes do a bit better with standing water as they typically need more water while young. But I would try and let them dry out fist. Best of luck

Squishy caudex does necessarily mean rot. Caudex are like potatoes, if lacking water, they will start to shrink and shrivel up, hence a squishy caudex. Root rot is pretty noticeable, squishy caudex, with some water, will firm up quite quickly

Is softer feeling caudex due to over watering or under watering?
@growinggreenthumbs7497
@growinggreenthumbs7497 Жыл бұрын
If it is soft and wet or mushy then most likely over watering . If you decide to change the type of soil mix to have more drainage then your watering regiment could be fine. You just have to find the right combination.

So if the stems & branches have dried out in summer sun, is this a sign of root rot?
@growinggreenthumbs7497
@growinggreenthumbs7497 Жыл бұрын
If it is completely dry it could mean not enough water. In hot summer days if you check the soil down to the bottom and it is completely dry after watering the day before or if you watered that morning and by evening it is completely dry, you need to water more. Some days in the summer I water twice a day. Hope that helps!

Hi Jim, it depends on how high you cut. If you cut high enough with completely no roots at all, I’m afraid it will not develop any new ones as there is no way it can take in enough nutrients. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
