Im 11 and I'm saving my money. It's my birthday tomorrow so it's an okay start for my age. I don't spend my money on sweets or stuff anymore because I'm saving for stuff that will be useful in the future. I probably sound silly but hey, prices nowadays can be very hard to achieve.

Limpy The Duck I'm so sorry you live in a world that's brought you into this awareness at such a young age, however you're at an age that you don't have to be very strict with saving and still have a substantial amount when you get into your twenties. I hope you keep your goals big love, you deserve it.

This is THE BEST genuine advice you can give a young person that is starting to work. I am 38, moved a year ago to the UK to start a new life with my wife. We started from scratch and we decided that we are going to buy a house. The journey just began, but with a little effort and patience, we can achieve it! Pro tip: Create an Excel (or Google Sheet) file, write your income and your outcome month by month. Then you'll realize the tons of money you spend on stupid things you don't need!

Lerato Pone i have very little outgoings, for instance my phone is £10 a month, I live at home so I only pay £120 a month and my petrol is the most expensive which is around £140 depending on where I go at the weekends. So the rest of the wage is mine, I usually try to save around £500 a month, and leave myself with a good amount so I’m still able to do things at the weekend and buy the clothes I want. Although this year I’m going on 3 holidays so I haven’t been putting in as much x

I was meant to come across this. Thank you for being so informative. I got stuck in that trap of keeping up appearances. Not to the extent of everything has to be designer and brand new but always having the latest looks, blow drys, nails, matching my outfits with handbags etc etc. It was not good. My mental health suffered as I went through a bad patch and thought none of this is new anymore, ‘I don’t want it’ and instead of selling the items (Some had tags on still) I simply just got rid of them (ethically - I was a regular at my local charity shop) I thought I could be this Millennial and survive life on a basic white tee and jeans etc. Not realising that later on...I fell back in the trap of buying again because I had nothing. And needed an outfit for this and that or to simply replace that white tee. (Tragic) there is light at the end of the tunnel...after I coming out the darkness and a relatively decent wardrobe of items. I’m ready to take back control. I always wanted to be a home owner. I’ve always said I want a house. And being spoilt (it takes a decent person to admit to this I think) I thought yep...It’s going to be easy. Ohhhhhh how wrong I was. Not realising just how much I would have to save and despite having any savings I stupidly thought yea my bank will just do it all for me. However after much research only to find out my credit score is pants...(Video idea? How to get your credit score up) No bank, mortgage broker or even loan shark would probably lend to me. So now I’m on a slow path to recovery but a path nonetheless. And watching this has definitely been a source of motivation (hence the long comment 🙈) for me to keep going. This is something they don’t teach in schools and really should especially to those in year 11 and beyond. So here is my long winded thank you....❤️

I really can't thank you enough for this video. I have been saving for years but it's been tremendously difficult. When I was working I saved £10 notes now I'm not working I save £5 notes and £100-£150 a month, I only get £600 a month. I also used to save pound coins and cashed in £1,300 with them after 2-3 years. Also try save the cash, in person, people are less likely to spend it when it's cash, when it's in your bank it's just numbers it has no meaning. That's why casinos give you playing chips and not cash

I've been reading up on help to buy ISA's I'm not sure if I would do it. From what I've read there designed to be used towards your mortgage but you can't use the money until after you've signed the mortgage paperwork and put down a deposit, so it acts as like a further reduction towards your mortgage. Which for some that may be a great option, but honestly at the moment whilst I'm at uni I don't make enough money from my part-time job and my business to have multiple savings & ISA's and make healthy deposits :( hopefully I'll get there soon the goal is to own my own home in 3 years.

If you are starting to save now.......you need to pray house prices don't go up more, and you need to pray that wages go up a lot. That, or you simply need a mixture of the following....... a salary of £30,000+, be living with parents, avoid spending tonnes on things like holidays, cars, clothes, or inherit or be gifted a large some of money. I was earning a relatively low salary and managed to save a lot in the past 10 years, but house prices have gone up at the same rate I have saved. A 2 bed home has risen by £100,000 in the 10 years I have been saving......so it's a lost cause for me unless I move over 50 miles away, I cannot afford to buy in and around the surrounding towns I live in.

Hey Jade, I'm a new subscriber, so it might be too late for you to notice this question. I'm a uni student (finalist), and my partner is 4 years older than me, but he is just planning to start university (Oxford) via a senior scheme (he had a pretty tough childhood, so he's barely getting himself on his feet now). The problem with this is that I'm essentially foreseeing that he will be stuck in part-time employment for at least 10 years (he intends to become a lecturer). I, on the other hand, am trying really hard to get into a graduate scheme via my uni (it lasts 3 years, and the salary grows about 2k-3k per year). It's also in the midlands, and the salary is pretty high, in proportion to the living costs here. We're both pretty poor, and we have no family support, but I am a crazy saver. All my student money is in an ISA that I never touch. I only go out on exceptionally special occasions, I cook all the food from scratch, and I don't buy coffee from shops (my cafetiere is my best friend). I come from a different country, where the notion of buying via a mortgage is just nonexistent; you just save to buy a house with all the cash down. Which is why I find the notion of mortgages so scary, because it sounds so lifelong. Anyway, I am rambling. What I was thinking for us to do, if I secure this internship, is to save for a three bedroom property, in which my partner and I would keep a bedroom for ourselves, and we can rent the other two rooms; I imagine we could pay most -if not all- of the monthly mortgage via the rent we get from those two rooms, and a hefty amount from my salary would go into a saver that I use to either save up for future mortgage (in case an emergency happens, and we run out of tennants for months so we have to cover all the mortgage ourselves, etc.), or for a business start-up that I have in mind. I know it sounds silly to ask, but do you think this idea sounds alright? I have nobody from the UK with whom I can talk about this, all are from my age-group and they don't imagine buying a house in the next decade. :(
