My bougainvillea is in a large pot on my sunny terrace in Athens. The strange thing is - it blooms every year in Jan/Feb/March/April & not in the Summer !

In the spring, the soil may be drier due to reduced rainfall or evaporation, which can trigger blooming. In contrast, the summer months may bring more frequent rainfall, causing the soil to become waterlogged, which could hinder blooming. 2.Daylight hours: Bougainvillea responds well to long daylight hours, typically blooming when day lengths are around 12 hours or more. During the spring in Athens, the days are gradually getting longer, providing more sunlight for your bougainvillea to bloom. In contrast, the summer days are shorter due to the solstice, which might reduce blooming. 3.Pruning and growth habits: Bougainvillea is a fast-growing vine that requires regular pruning to maintain its shape and promote blooming. If you're not pruning your bougainvillea regularly, it might focus its energy on producing leaves instead of flowers. Pruning in late winter or early spring can encourage new growth and blooming To encourage your bougainvillea to bloom more throughout the year: Check your soil moisture levels and adjust accordingly. Prune your bougainvillea regularly to maintain its shape and promote blooming. Consider fertilizing your bougainvillea with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season (spring-fall). Very informative. I repotted my bugambilia, but I made the mistake of putting her on the Sun (she was before inside because the weather was too cold). How do I know whether I killed her or not?

you can check their root is it rot or turn black, smell funky if none of that, i believe your bougainvillea is not death yet only [cold transfer shock]

no when i do not trim (touch) their root just repot

I hear conflicting information on bougainvillea some say treat it mean and don't water or fertilizer with great results and and a few sat to do the exact opposite and also great results why was your huge plant in such a tiny pot to begin with?

question 1 "treat it mean and don't water or fertilizer " is one of the requiment to stimulate bougainvillea to flower "don't water" for bougainvillea is to create drought stress which promotes blooms. for me "don't fertilizer" part is only when i want to create slight nutrient deficit which causes stress and promotes flowering potted plant do require fertilizer avoid higher nitrogen content of the fertilizer for bougainvillea other thing bougainvillea needs before flowering Full Sun is at least six hours of sun per day (too much shade prevents bougainvillea from blooming). Need short day to stimulate flowering. and pruning since Bougainvillea bloom on new wood question 2 why was your huge plant in such a tiny pot to begin with? This Bougainvillea plants have rooted through the bottom of the container into the soil p.s i found yours question in "held for review section" it contain blocked word (said youtube)
