This is so lame. She must think that housing is still only 500 a month. And when was the last time a bank paid interest ? She is going to have what she put in there, plus a penny a year.

If we take it literal that is probably true, but I think these are mere reference figures.

That's all well and good until some crack-head breaks into your house and steals your jar of cash and then your home owner's insurance wants you to "prove" that you had hundreds of dollars in cash in your house. This happened to me. Just put it in the bank.

This is useless to me. I am in my 20s and barely make $1000 a month. Most of money goes to bills.

This is ridiculous. I need something more realistic. I’m 20, I work part time and am studying nursing while living on my own with $600 rent, about $275 in transportation and that’s not including groceries. Where’s there room to save?

Justin Keith I was kicked out. I’m not a bad kid but the situation was rough so I had to find my own place. There was nothing cheaper than 600

Pick up shifts when you can. Sell things you don't need or want. And save what you can. Not everyone can save $500 a month. But saving something is better than nothing.

Never spend a $5 bill is an interesting idea, but I've found that never keeping change in my purse is easier. I just put all my change in a jar at home (mainly because I don't want change to weigh down my purse because in Canada we have $1 and $2 coins!) and it adds up fast. Then you can give it to your bank teller to deposit it directly into your bank account.
