Adapt to a lifestyle, be thrifty, set a budget, save money, and make investments to live within your means. I benefited from this as a six-figure income. With this strategy, my retirement savings have increased by almost $1 million.

I use to be like this when I was younger, now I'm way better with money. I'm just not impressed with a lot of material items anymore. Having a budget and having patience is something I had to practice overtime.

I am where I am today because of Suze Orman's advice. After my husband suddenly passed away, I was unsure what to do with his retirement money and his 401K. Thank goodness I watched her show, got a great financial adviser, and spoke with educated friends. I have my Suze Orman checklist done and my children and I are doing very well, and will do well in our futures. Thank you Suze, everyone should listen to you. YOu have made my life what it is today..financially successful !

This woman is brilliant. I'm in Australia and the same thing applies here; even if you file for bankruptcy and don't have a penny, your student debts will still be there, NEEDING to be paid. Suze is correct in saying student debt is very dangerous and must be paid off a.s.a.p.

This woman is brilliant? A dead clock is still right twice a day, kiddo. Suze Orman doesn't say anything that your own common sense wouldn't. Please don't tell me you signed up for her "Approved" card, which sank like a rock in a swimming pool. When the woman who helped Orman onto the public stage in the early 90s when Orman was unknown, unpublished, and *DEEP IN DEBT* calls her a "ripoff artist," that oughta tell ya something. Her name is Sharon Janis and this is the video she made: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYutmWVrYtiCb5o Of her video, Janis says: "In this exposé, you will see why Suze Orman’s name should go down in history right next to Bernie Madoff's, except that while Madoff plundered the wealthy, Orman has slopped up and stolen a fortune directly from the pockets of the poor and middle class for the past fifteen-plus years. Sponsored and protected by corporations, banks, and billionaires and propped up by ghostwriters and behind-the-scenes experts, Suze Orman's scams, shams and shenanigans have caused serious damage to many lives and to the economy of the United States of America." You and anyone else who thinks Orman is "brilliant" should watch this when you can.

I agree with most of the other posters on this video. Suze Orman is all over the place. No plan or anything. I'm sure she means well, but what she talks about does not make a lot of sense. She talks about getting out of debt and being able to wake up every morning know that you can retire SOMEDAY. But there's no plan in place on really how to do it. Dave Ramsey is very to the point on everything. He explains every part of your financial journey. What to do first, second, and so on. There's no questioning what you should do after listening to him. You can either follow him or not, but you know what you need to do to have a better life financially. I used to watch Orman a long time ago before I heard of Dave Ramsey and I'm glad I made the change because I actually learned how to handle money the Ramsey way. There's all sorts of different financial advisors for different people, but Dave works best for me.

Budgeting does not have to be super restrictive. Budgeting is about being in control of your money; knowing what is coming in and what is being spent. I have plenty of money to play with and get everything paid off monthly simply because I budget. It's not a diet. It's paying myself and my bills first. I think people are confused about what the term "budget" means. It does not mean restrict until you go crazy.

If you get an early start on saving and retirement, it will make a world of difference in the long run. I was cut to part time at work, my family survived on me working 14 hour days to get paid for 8.(waiting 6 hours between shifts). My retirement account helped immensely. I was able to borrow from myself. And sometimes that is a good idea. One friend of mine had a savings account that he used to buy a much needed car. But he still went through the lending process just to get a payment schedule and interest info. But instead of taking out the loan he used the savings account and made the payments as planned into the savings account, with the interest! So in the end he increased his savings account by the interest on the payments but to himself, not a bank!

That's good thinking on your friends part. Credit is NOT a bad thing but that "thing" needs to be something that will make a return like a business and of course a home. I use my credit for EVERYTHING I buy and I mean everything! Why? They pay me a lot to do it, I was just paid $600. for using my BOA card which happens about once a year, yep free money, but I have a fare amount of money per year go thru that account. Credit is an important thing to have and I have a good record and have never paid a dime of interest on it. I own everything I have without any dept and that is a freeing experience.

To "really save money" is simple; living within your means and practicing discipline, mixed with the wisdom and desire to be financially stable and/or secure. The same goes for people who want to "lose weight" and be "fit and healthier"; you have to want it enough to do what's required to make it happen. Unfortunately, most people tend to complain about their finances and health, expending more effort in "wishing" it were different (and complaining), than the effort required to make it happen - lazy people who need to straighten up.

***** I'm sure budgeting doesn't work for everyone and if you can handle your money without a budget that's great. For me though, I got tired of wondering where all my money had gone at the end of the month, with a budget I can set a goal for the month and keep myself in line with that set goal for the month. It makes me feel like I am more in control.

Its a great Video, during the great depression our great grand mothers and fathers only ever bought stuff they really needed, rather than what they wanted. I think people are too spoilt these days where they believe they can buy whatever they want. I say this what happens if you lost your job tomorrow, how long can you survive without getting any money, being frugal really pays off

Knowing where your money is coming from and going to is not a budget. Watching where it’s going and making adjustments or restricting the outflow is definitely a budget. Loose budget in that she’s not suggesting you put a monetary amount next to the amount of your hair cuts every 6 weeks or your fuel consumption, but just being mindful. I think that’s a good first step. Once you realize how much money is wasted (possibly), you get pretty psyched about saving more/spending more wisely.

I worked in the US 23 years , went bankrupted and left the country! Now my mom gave me my inheritance of 10K and I bought my house in cash ! I retired from the workforce at 38 and I now will play in my garden and live the life I want to live in my country for 400 bucks a month! With 400 I feed 2 people 2 dogs and 3 cats , plus I have money left over to feed another family for 2 weeks. The beauty of making your ss payments go waaaay farther then in the US!After my mom is gone from this world I will turn off electric, phone computer and tv and be left with only one bill The tax bill for the house which is about 17.00 for the year! Yes I said 17 bucks a year! But that depends on your ability to sacrifice things and what is important to you! My freedom from bills and government is more important then anything else!PS! if you are retired and want a simpler cheaper life look for another country to retire in!

If you want to get on track, TRACK IT!! I agree with her when it comes to knowing where your money is coming from and going to but she is 100% wrong when it's comes to creating a budget. Anyone who has created a budget knows the awareness of what it does when it comes to income and expenses. Part of tracking your income and expenses is having something to compare it to. And that is where the budget comes in. I also agree with her when it comes to student loan debt. Absolutely the dumbest debt in my opinion and it always seems to be the "smartest people" who have it.

It doesn't meet MY personal definition, but it's kind of ridiculous to say that. Previous generations didn't live as long and worked longer. There's no reason we can't do the same. Now, if someone doesn't want to work that long, then they need to save more than the skimpy 6%-10% for retirement in their 401ks/IRAs, which is all many people save (if anything).

I think that a great way to start your budgeting process is get a little note book that you always take with you and write down everything you spend. Try doing this for 3 months but even one month would help. Then annalize your spending by category, now figure out what can I eliminate, what could I cut back on with a cheaper option, what could I do less often. Then make a budget and stick to it.

School is free Suze Orman! You do not have to fear having students loans because that is good debt. The longer that account is open and in good standing, your scores will rise! Suze gives good information but she is off when she speaks of student loans and how God awful it is to have student loans. Not everyone can pay for school. It should be a crime to have to pay for education in the first place. In that respect, it is what it is. From personal experience, my loans were in deferment, as she stated, and I still managed to raise my credit score more than 66 points each months! If you all are interested in hearing from a real person, who is not rich, who has had student loans, say yes and I will give you my entire comprehensive guide to building solid credit while having student loans in deferment. Remember, SCHOOL IS FREE! The video is coming soon, if you all are interested. Oh, and it will not cost you one red dime! In one year, my scores were improved by 203 points, as of May 29, 2016, and I have the documents to prove it. My identity was stolen years ago and I had to work like mad to get my credit back. I am still not at my 800 mark. That's the goal by the end of this year; at the rate I am going, it should not be a problem. It can be done, but you will make sacrifices as Suze stated. You will definitely not buy on a whim and you must only purchase your necessities. Trust me, the reward is so sweet when you are not being denied credit, cars or housing, because of a group of numbers, which indicates you are either a responsible person, or an irresponsible person. I think it sucks, but self control is definitely a must. ~Peace and Grace#KeepTheChange#WhatsYourFicoScore#Denied

I've heard so mantras things about her and this is the first time I've ever heard her speak and even seen what she looks like for that matter. I thought I would hate her guts immediately. However I was surprised that I agreed with most of what she was saying.

I think Suze Orman is an excellent financial advisor! I want to add a great tip. According to the NFDA, the National Funeral Director Association, the average funeral in America these days is $8,100! How is a family living paycheck to paycheck supposed to cover that, on top of the huge emotional loss of losing a loved one? The reality is, EVERYONE needs life insurance! Getting a good term life policy should be the first item in your financial game plan. We must plan for the worst, expecting the best.

Everyone will retire but how you retire is up to you. I'd rather be hanging out on a beach in Hawaii sipping on a nice cold drink, instead of sitting at home counting the popcorn on my ceiling because i didn't do things right. Don't buy crap you don't need. Save your money, i never meet a happy broke man !!

I think one of the important important tibits of words she said which I think is more important than the advice is when she said : "People do not REALIZE how much money they have coming in."....That there is the honest true.
