In this video I’ll show you my basic rules of how to save your money when you travel to or live in such an expensive country like Norway.
⏱ TIME CODES ⏱
00:00 - Let’s save some money in Norway
02:39 - Food Shopping has to be planned in advance
04:13 - Alcohol in Norway. Norway is the most expensive country in Europe in terms of prices on alcohol
06:54 Clothes shopping - always check the price tag
08:46 - Beauty Products Shopping - best prices in Norway I found so far
11:54 - Coffee Shop or Why Coffee in a flask is so popular in Norway? 🇳🇴
✅ Food Shopping has to be planned in advance.
Do not rely on restaurants and take away only.
You better learn some basic cooking skills before coming to Norway.
2 most budget supermarkets in Norway 🇳🇴
📍KIWI kiwi.no
📍REMA 1000 www.rema.no
More expensive options:
📍Meny meny.no
📍Coop coop.no
✔️ home delivery option available
✅ Alcohol. Norway is the most expensive country in Europe in terms of prices on alcohol.
I offer 2 options here:
✔️ Reducing alcohol consumption.
As a bottle of wine in Norway will cost you approx. €20 - €30 / $24 - $36.
📍Vinmonopolet is a government-owned alcoholic beverage retailer and the only company allowed to sell beverages containing an alcohol content higher than 4.75% in Norway
www.vinmonopol...
Glass of wine in the restaurant Approx. €18 - €25 / $22 - $30
✔️ Bringing alcohol with you.
As an example, you can bring 6 bottles of wine + 6 cans of beer.
For the reference, here is Toll Customs Norway - government regulations
www.toll.no/en...
✅ Clothes shopping - always check the price tag!
So yes. Clothes shopping is expensive in Norway in general. But common, €100 for a hat is ridiculous.
✅ Beauty Products Shopping
Normal Chain is popular and well-known in Norway. You can find this shop in the majority of towns.
www.normal.eu
They have great selection of necessary products; including beauty and hygiene products, mass cosmetic brands, products for the hours: detergents, candles, etc. Also lots of items for pets.
The prices are good! Compare to London the prices are pretty much the same.
✅ Coffee Shop or Why Coffee in a flask is so popular in Norway? 🇳🇴
Average price for double cappuccino is 57 NOK = €5.6 = $7 = £4.9
And that’s why I highly recommend you to have your coffee in a flask!
Coffee in a flask is extremely popular in Norway.
You can fill in your flask with coffee in the morning at home or in the hotel - trust me, it’s not a problem to do so even in 5* hotels in Norway. They will understand 😉
Remember! Places like Starbucks and local coffee chain Espresso House are rather a rare treat.
Let’s calculate.
57 NOK for a cup of soya cappuccino.
Having it every day you’ll end up paying 20,805 NOK, almost €2 000 a year.
And this video is about saving money in Norway, right? 😉

When it comes to alcohol, plenty of Norwegians from Oslo take the Color Line ferry to Kiel (Germany) and storm the Citti-Park or Rewe Center to buy their supply for the whole year. :D

Anna, I will add two tips for money savings, 1st: Finn.no, There is so many used items there (in like new condition) where rich people purchase something and use it once or never, and sell for 1/4 the purchase price. also some good used item for very cheap. I have to say 90% of my item purchases were from Finn.no if I didn't want the "new unopened box feeling". Not to mention how much furniture is given away when people purchase new. 2nd: you make trumf.no acc. You already mentioned Kiwi and Rema (which has a separate app for that). for Kiwi a great way to save in them is to make "trumf" account. for every purchase you get back ~1%. You don't need to do anything in the store (no app or additional cards) , as you register your bank card, and when paying it will recognize automatically (you will see it on the POS when you are paying) Also each month they have a "tripple" trumf day where all items are 3% and vegetables and fresh meet is 17%. the savings seams small but we usually save 500-1000NOK in 2-3 months :)

I was planning to visit Norway in 2020 but Covid came. I am looking at the prices in Norway and they are a bit more expensive than Australia but not as much as I thought. 5.50 AUD for a coffee converts to 35.5 NOK. I hope the quality of coffee is better than Starbucks when international travel opens up for us again.

Norway is at the top of coffee drinking, we drink the most amount of coffee per person of any country, so yes, our coffee is great. By coffee I mean regular black, anything else is blasphemy.:D
@mbalunovic
@mbalunovic 2 жыл бұрын
@@OriginalPuro thats hardly arguabel. You may drink the most but most drink the palin filter coffee like a tea. Hardly any strength or special flavour that is brought out by other brewing methods (still keeping it black). The best coffee is in Italy. But true, Norvegian coffee is better than Starbucks. But that a pretty low bar to beat :)

Hygellig video! 2. Hvor du relaxer når jobber du ikke? Takk.
@ujmm
@ujmm 2 жыл бұрын
Hei, Giulia. / If you are in a larger café, in a Norwegian city, it is common for students to sit there studying alone without buying something. . or just chatting with fellow students where someone has paid for something(especially if it's full-almost full.). But if there is a small cafe where they greet you when you enter, it would be a little strange to go there without buying anything of course.

Fun to watch your videos. I have visited all European countries in 2018/2019 (except the UK). Coffee costs the same in all the countries - but remember - we use American coffee and here you get 5o-200% more than in other countries - full cup. Sportswear is not expensive. We can not use cheap polyester in -10--30 degrees - it is useless. We use wool or Merion wool. We also do not buy cheap clothes like jackets, outerwear, socks, under clothes or shoes / boots, only because its useless - therefore well-known brands such as Gant, Desiqual, Nike are cheaper in Norway. the same goes for everything that is luxury - because we do not have luxury taxes. Luxury watches are also cheap here. Very many tourists therefore buy their luxury clothes / watches / shoes in Norway.

Hi Glenn, thank you very much. I appreciate your opinion. However, coffee in London: £2.7 in Pret, same soya cappuccino, same size cup £2.8 Caffè Nero £3.2 in Starbucks, again, same soya cappuccino. Starbucks is exactly the same everywhere in Europe, I don’t feel any other difference between coffee in England and Norway but the price. Yoga Matt is £12 in TK Maxx, Oxford street. I don’t even mention Amazon here. My Dope snowboarding jacket. £80 in London delivered home, £140 here in Oslo. Talking about luxury now. Believe me I personally compared prices in LV in Karl Johans Gate, New Bond Street in London and Via Candotti in Rome, they are far not the same. Thank you very much indeed, Glenn 🙂 but it’s a well known fact that Norway is one of the most expensive countries IN THE WORLD TO LIVE IN 2020: check this out 😉 www.gq.com.au/lifestyle/travel/cash-at-the-ready-the-most-expensive-countries-in-the-world-to-live-in-2020/image-gallery/0c49cd88985d69623bfc7e563d8d91c9 www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/most-expensive-countries-to-live-in-ranked%3famp Soon we will go out 😉 and I will proof this point big time. My advice for saving money: Stay away from shops as much as possible. Make nature your gym, don’t pay for gym membership. Don’t pay for internet, use the free wifi hotspots. Don’t buy books, magazines and newspapers. You can read them for free on the public library. Use a bicycle for your local transport, not the bus or your car. Make your own food. Don’t pay people to do things for you that you could just as easily do yourself. Learn to do it yourself. Buy your electricity from the cheapest supplier, find it here: strømpris.no. Same with choice of bank, insurance and internet provider. Norwegians in general are spoiled/lazy and are often “loyal”/doesn’t shop around for the best prices. Some companies exploit that and have bad, non competitive offers. Don’t be that fool.
