Here is a quick video on the Tips of what to look out for when the Spanish Moss is appears to be dying.
Do check on the these tips:
1) Air Movement
2) Indirect Bright Light
3) Adequate Watering
The Care and Maintenance is very much similar like any airplants - so if you managed to cultivate an airplant - this one is very much similar.

I grew up in the southern parts of the United states and I have been around Spanish moss all of my life, but I had never thought about growing it as a house plant until now. Thank you so much for the care tips.

I was going to throw mine out a few weeks ago. It was brown. So, I thought I'd soak it over and over again to see if it would come back. After a few soakings in the bathroom sink for over an hour, it started to show some green. So, I'm soaking it every other day, and hoping it will come back eventually.

The totally brown will ve brown forever. Its dead.. Carefully remove the green n cultivate those separately and observe them grow longer n healthy

@@TropicalGarden As long as I'm getting green coming from the brown I'll keep soaking it. Now I'm starting to soak it more often with the warmer weather. How would I hang these small sprouts if I take them off the brown?

I've lived in Louisiana all my life and yes moss does like the shade of oak trees but it also does quite well in full southern sun and heat...yes it dries but doesn't die...if that was the case all the moss would die but for the justification of the video for ascetic looks part shade areas will keep it with less brown but eventually it will brown but that is part of the structure because it tangles and holds to the dead areas to give strength

Here in my region If its fully dries up. Its totally dead at the part entangled at the top. The ones that turn silvery green is still alive when it gets wet. The dead parts remain brown n dried even after watering. Some queries were made whether the dead part comes alive water watering - my answer is No. They stay dead when fully dries up n looking burned n crisp. Thank you so much for your sharing and comments. Really appreciate it very much as you have first hand on this native plant in your region.

Reason is because they unable to hold water. Not like succulents... They holds a little water only so probably you have to water everyday.

Thank a lot for the information. Will you please share what to do for the tiny insect attack of the plant
@TropicalGarden
@TropicalGarden Жыл бұрын
Most cases it could be scale insect infestation. If thats the case, soak the spanish moss in a bucket of water with any pesticide you can get your hands on. Basically water based type as oil base can ruin the plant. You can put crushed garlic, neem soap or whatever works best in your garden. Try first in a sma portion n see the results. It if works, then do the same method for the whole collection. Good luck

Thanks, homie. Mine almost completely died. I suspect it's the foliar spray which I used on them a couple weeks back. It was the second application which caused them to turn brown. After the first application about a month ago, they were still fine. Anyway, I have mine hanging under my verandah. Even with misting several times a day, they still manage to look and feel dry. I'll just soak them in water from now on. By the way, are yours thriving with tap water?

Thanks James! I got 2 spanish moss recently and yes, they all do come with metal wire...And they look all mangled up at the part where the metal is...how do i remove them from the metal wire without harming them? they look so tangled and mangled on top, where the metal wire is...do i just cut it? I was thinking of putting them into a wood ring, like those used for macrame ...hope to hear your kind advise...
@TropicalGarden
@TropicalGarden Жыл бұрын
1) Put it first in water in a bucket 2) Take out n see if they are fresh n greem or dried up to crisp - throw away the dried parts, use only the green parts 3) You can carefully snip the fold with scissors and tie them with a string or fishing line or garden insulated wire to your desired wood ring. Hope this helps

Do you have to fetishized theses air plants if fetishized is it grow faster?
@TropicalGarden
@TropicalGarden 3 жыл бұрын
I used to fertilise but I also found that sometimes I over do it and they get burned up or die faster - and so I rarely fertilise - like once or 2 months once. Also I dilute it very much like when it says 1 capful for a liter - I use 1 cap for 4 liters of water - a very diluted strength. This is my method, as I mentioned - I had killed and burned them up and so being very careful about it. Also only use fertiliser specially made for airplants.

Best way to grow this is neglect it and if its hot and humid enough itll take over. Its probably hard for u to grow bc ur not in the southern states of america. Im in alabama and born and raised here. Itll take over before u can imagine if u r in the right climate

That's so great to know. However - here in the tropical side A lot of proper care is required - like taking care of an actual air-plant. Too much water - it rots, Too less water - it dries No proper sunlight - no moisture - it dies. Hence a proper balance is required in this side of the world. Thank you so much for your comment & thoughts. Really appreciate it very much
