I grew up on a property that was THICK with Spanish moss. So much it would block sunlight from reaching the ground. Where ever I have moved, I have taken moss from with me. My favorite plant.

Don’t forget the southeast portion of the United States! It’s part of our cultural heritage, we love them. Look at pictures of the plantations in the south and you’ll see them everywhere hanging from oak trees.

Thanks so much. Was contemplating getting a hold of some but didn't know how they'd do down here in cold in winter but generally Mediterranean summer Tasmania. Will get some and a spray bottle! Huzzah!

The flowers are so tiny and cute. If you bring it indoors make sure there are no bugs or bug eggs on the plant. Moths and spiders esp love it. Also the crows in my area like to try and steal it for bedding material.

Those look great hanging there. I have extremely low humidity in the winter which makes it hard to keep Tillandsia alive.

There’s so much Spanish moss in Florida it’s ridiculous, I’ve always loved it so much. I might yoink some off a tree near my house and just try growing it, it’s so common. That, and one of the ones that looks similar that instead looks like a ball on smaller trees, I want to grow some air plants since I have pets so this might be a good option!

Thank you for letting us know that Spanish moss will grow in winter cold weather I live in Central Georgia, USA. I only get small bits of it occasionally from my water oak tree in my front yard, when the tree decides to self-prune, in the wind. The small pieces I get are always very green. But until now, I didn't know how to keep it alive, so it always died every time. So, thank you very much! 😂

Can you tell me why, especially in winter in the UK when I spray it goes a nice green colour but very quickly reverts back to the greyish colour ? Also what is the minimum amount of light they can tolerate and finally where can I purchase it, the ones I buy locally are a fraction of the size of yours and quite expensive. Thanks great video, subscribed
@GrowParadise10 ай бұрын
Hi Joe, the silver colouration is usually a plants adaption to higher light levels. They can tolerate part shade in summer but not full shade. We sell them in our online shop and will have the same sized bunches available again soon 😀 Thanks for watching.

When hanging from wire, the wire must be insulated. Contact with bare wire will kill the plant!
@Kstacks4278 ай бұрын
What would you usually insulate them with? Sorry I’m trying to grow this myself
@Buffatestuff8 ай бұрын
@@Kstacks427 I use wire that is already insulated. The green plant wire works as well as any small gauge electric wire. The plants will not tolerate contact with bare metal.

What is it safe to tie bunches without killing it? Some Sellers I buy it from, send it with wire wrapped around it and it’s dead where it’s bunched. Can it be hung from those black hooks from garden centers?

I’ve just started growing them. I’m in the southern hemisphere, sub tropical. I find they’re a little slow growing? For eg the shirt length you cut? How long will it take to get to that large one?

Spanish moss is the best one to get which is the one mostly featured. In this video. You can get slightly different varieties with some that have thicker leaves, but they are all very very similar to most of us grows 🙂

Hi. Does spanish moss required full sunlight or I can keep it in house? Or can I keep hanging under tree branches out side my home where there no full sun light but full day light and flowing air. I am from India.
@GrowParadise4 күн бұрын
This Spanish moss prefers full sunlight, but you can grow it indoors as long as it's got good light. I grow mine outdoors in the warm summer months right through until the first frosts.

From what I understand, it's important to orient them the same way. so turning upside down to hang will kill it. I have never tested this but I have read it in several places.
