How to say nothing/nobody in Chinese? Indefinite pronouns in Chinese

I find that "nobody" can be more problematic. And 谁也不 may not always work. For example: "There is nobody in the room". I suppose we could say 房间里谁也不存在 but this seems awkward. I don't know if there is a better way to use 谁也不 for this sentence. Using 没有人 seems to work better. 房间里没有人 "There is nobody in the room" However, for "There is nothing in the room" 房间里什么也没有 seems to work fine.
