Thank you to you both for doing this! You are my heroes!!! I take care of so many elderly people who have been scammed + what they lose is more than money. They feel a great deal of shame, they blame themselves for losing their hard-earned money. Most are on a fixed income, they are already struggling to maintain their independence. Getting scammed in such a way can be quite disorienting for them. Yes, they lose money but they also lose their sense of confidence, which is already declining. These scammers are not taking from the rich and powerful, they’re robbing the elderly. It’s unethical in the most fundamental way.

This is CJ! Your skills are off the charts! Four HOURS! We need more women to join up, there are a few, I hope they share your ideals. Rinoa speaks over them constantly, a different style, the scammers don't like a woman being smarter than them. Your visit to India, wow, we have to remember that the scammers are the tiny minority, the rest are wonderful people. Always make sure your friends and family understand, NOT to use the Admin account everyday on internet facing computers! Admin is for installing, use an ordinary account so installing is not quite so easy, hopefully giving them time to consider.

I get romance scammers all the time on FB. They are very transparent. So I play them along for a while telling them I am a rich lonely widow with no family.......they get all excited, and then I drop the bomb by confronting them and then blocking them.

The only issue of getting rid of landlines is for 911 calls in the USA. If you call with a landline, 911 has your exact address right away. That is important if someone visiting you calls and doesn't know the address. That is important if you forget your address during your moment of distress. Maybe there is a way to block calls from incoming, but having a landline for emergencies is very helpful.

Landlines can't trace a call like cell/mobile phones can. Location, IP address and more can be gathered quickly from a mobile phone. ROCK ON ALL OF YOU!

Karl, NZ is lucky if your mobiles aren't being hit by scams yet, but it's probably not far off. My Aussie mobile gets slammed just as much as my parents landline did (I finally convinced them to disconnect it last month!) They typically spoof a Melbourne landline number or a random Australian mobile number - sometimes the mobile numbers are still active to a completely unsuspecting person who gets calls back and has no idea what's going on.

I get about 1 to 3 call a month on my cell phone from scammers. I am of a certain age where they target. Cell phones are not as safe as they used to be. Be sure and tell the older generation it can happen on any communication device. My parents were scammed out of $2500 by someone claiming to be lawyer representing my son who was in jail in Canada. My son was traveling that summer and they got lucky. I was at conference that day with no phone coverage. They could not reach me to ask. It was awful.

Admin is for installing, use an ordinary account so installing is not quite so easy, hopefully giving them time to consider. Logout of your Google account if you are being asked to use Chrome! Otherwise your whole Google is at risk. Get a real Tech support to remove the RAT software, not only TeamViewer, they use that to install nastier RATs. (Check with Deyo).
