I'm an NRI and my friends used to joke around about me not having the Amazon tech support accent since I have a natural American accent. It's among friends, so it was just a joke and I never took it in a negative light as they don't harass me or anything. I try to remind myself that I called and used the number from the phone application, did not get the call from them and that it will be fine. But finding out they do legit work on the side scares me. It was definitely a tip off. My friend worked with a Uk India police partnership raiding brothels in India that were filled with children. The cops were always tipping off the brothel owners. Whenever children were rescued (they were mainly street children who were orphans) and put into what was supposed to be secure accommodation then those places simply became child brothels. The operation had to cease due to corruption.

Majority of these policemen have never even touched a PC, they will not understand what a scam means ! The need to recruit people with I.T background and setup a unit in the police only to deal with cyber traffic and scams.

This is one side of the medal, because to create a case, you need to make preparations for it, the other side is that until the police won't have incentives to stop these kind of crimes, they won't do much about them. Clearly English speaking countries who are badly affected by scam cyber crimes, must actively push and work with Indian police in order to stop scammers. As Karl said, the good Indian people suffer the most, because they are seen badly now the scam thing is emerging as a plague in US, UK. So it's a good thing to stop this crime by Indian cyber police, in a way that the reputation of India and Indians will not be questioned anymore.

Police obviously aren't that serious, they should do some surveillance and make sure the call centre is in operation when they raid. Similarly they should have warrants to seize equipment for forensic analysis.

There are dedicated units within each police force that deal with cyber crimes. There are also forensic labs and people from IT background who work there. Talking of Delhi, in Dwarka we have state of the art cyber forensic lab called CyPad. But yes, given the volume of cyber crimes we are still leagues behind in terms of man power and resources to actively combat these cases. Serious improvements are needed.

@@KarlRock Unless you've lived in Asia, its hard to comprehend the level of corruption that exists. At worst, they had to spend more money on "protection" this month. There will be no trial and certainly no prison. I'm currently living in Thailand, which is pretty honest compared to India. If you get stopped for a DUI, just give the cop a 2000 baht bribe. He'll even give you a receipt, so if you get stopped again on the way home they will let you go.

Great job as always Karl! Thanks for sharing and make sure you and your family stay safe! I work daily with many people in India and from India. Everyone of them when they hear scammer stuff are not happy it goes on and they all agree that it should be stopped ASAP. Glad to hear the US Embassy is getting involved too. Going to watch Jim's video on it now. For me on scammers calls, I just don't answer phone numbers I don't recognize. Scammers don't leave a message. I tell my friends/family to do the same, ignore those unknown numbers.

You are insane if you actually think it wasnt a cop that told them, sure they may be spooked but the fact they cleared out within a hr of the raid and had 2 cops visit them before that? Come on its clear as day, the owner has a cop or 2 in his pocket. Pays them weekly or monthly to let him know a head of time of any issues, the owner isnt stupid he has a legit call center during the day and doesnt steal too much to really be noticed so him owning a cop or 2 isnt a stretch at all

A reason why the Police don't take it seriously is because it actually helps the Indian economy grow. The flow of money from the US and other countries provide an injection directly into the Indian market which increases the money supply.
