I loved this tutorial! I was wondering if you have any suggestions for photographing bigger pieces like 11x 17? I don’t really want to edit my painting but it’s too big to scan and it’s hard to get it perfectly flat since it was made with watercolors, so when I take photos and try and crop it its uneven
@MyMcDoodles3 жыл бұрын
I have not scanned a painting that large, but a traditional scanner might be better in this case. It’s hard to keep the camera perfectly level and the exact same angle to be able to take photos of different areas and piece it together later. And if you take the photo from far enough away to fit it all in the frame you’ll lose a lot of your detail and texture. 😖 You’d still have to piece it together from the real scanner, but since it’s scanning flat it may be easier. When I’m scanning artwork where the paper is larger than the scanner bed, I press the area that’s contacting the glass down with my hand (within reason so the paper doesn’t bend! 😳), then rotate it and do the other areas in the same way, BUT I’ve never had to patch together an entire painting this way!! You may want to simply invest in a large scanner to save yourself a lot of headache and extra work. Or perhaps take it to Kinkos, Staples, etc and use their equipment! I hope this long-winded reply is helpful! 😝😅 👉 (Something like this scanner may be your best bet & if you’re selling your art, it may end up paying for itself! Good luck!!! amzn.to/3CP7RHl )

Omg, this tutorial is SO HELPFUL! I’m just starting to sell original watercolor greeting cards, but wanted to sell digital versions of the cards too. My scanner sucks and doesn’t capture the artwork accurately, so your method would definitely work as an affordable option, versus buying the Epson V600 😭. Would I be able to use the procreate pocket on my phone to edit? I don’t have an iPad. Thank you so much!

Hi! I’m so glad this was helpful. Yes. You could use Procreate Pocket with the same steps and techniques I shared in this video! Let me know if you have any questions! I hope your new greeting cards are in your shop very soon! 🥰

I'm going to try this. I do have a scanner but I recently did a texture painting and the scanner doesn't preserve the texture of the paper amd brush strokes. I hate how flat it makes the painting look. I hope this works better than the scanner. Thank you!

I hope this works well! You can edit and adjust the lighting and contrast in the scanner app, too, which really helps to preserves texture! Good luck!!! ❤️

Hi thank you so much for sharing :) Can you please help me with this: To obtain the 300 dpi quality digital art work (size 24 x 36 inch), is using the phone / ipad to scan enough? Or we need to use the professional scanner?
@MyMcDoodles Жыл бұрын
That’s a large piece! I would recommend using a real scanner for an illustration of that size! :)

I’ve noticed (on my iphone) with the new ios that all I have to do is open the camera app and it knows when it’s a document and gives me the option to scan to files! I need to see if it works on iPad, but if so, that’s a really great free option, too!

The select tool with automatic turned on did not work for me. It just change all my colours and made everything almost black. The drawing didn’t stay like yours.
@MyMcDoodles2 жыл бұрын
Adjust the tolerance by sliding your pen to the left or right to capture more or less of your image. If the entire screen turned black it sounds like your tolerance is cranked up too high! Slide your pen to the left until your artwork reappears!!!

Procreate is only available for the iPad, but I’m not sure about the digitizing apps. Look in the Play store for “Scanner Pro” and “Magic Eraser” app!

Take a look in the Play store for the scanner app and Magic Eraser app. I believe they are available for non-Apple devices, too. Procreate is only for Apple, but there are also plenty of other drawing apps out there - many of them free. :) Feel free to dig around & comment what you find, to help others! I hope you can apply some ideas from this tutorial mo matter what software you use! :)
