It's such a relief that you have a calm voice and get right to the point - I've tried so many tutorials where the artist tries to be whacky and funny and it just makes it harder to concentrate! This tutorial helped me immensely and I've subscribed because of it. Many thanks!

@@aaronrutten Is there a way to get the drawings scanned into the computer faster, I know you can do pencil test with a video camera hooked up to the computer and tv paint, but when scanning, it would just be cool if there was a way to capture it quicker. I wonder if the profesional studios scan the drawings or have another method.

hi Aaron.... very informative video. I did not know about the overlay selection to clean up the black line art, that was very helpful. And I like the work around to avoid using the paint bucket tool to eliminate the ghosting around the black line art. I think Photoshop can pretty much do anything. I have an older Mustek large format scanner that I couldn't get to work any more because I was unable to get the proper drivers from the manufacturer. I solved that problem with a third party software and it works great again. I like it because of its scanning size.
@aaronrutten6 жыл бұрын
It's great that there are 3rd party drivers that can do that. I remember back in the day, lack of updated drivers were usually what killed a good scanner.

I was almost ready to send this one to the recycling. Fortunately I found that software.

Could you use a printer to scan an inked drawing if you don't have a scanner?
@danemeow84 жыл бұрын
Not unless the printer has a built in scanner. Some public facilities may have scanners. Like a library may have one for free or cheap use. Or you could take alot of your drawings all at once to someplace like Kinkos, a professional printing shop, and they should be able to do larger scale things as well. But honestly taking a picture can work just as well if you are careful and make sure theres enough light and no shadows. I think taking a picture may even be superior to scanning for certain colors and maybe special glitter or metallic effects on the traditional art. Hope that helps..

At some point after you first used the crop tool, the "background" layer turned into "layer"....How did that happen? I was following every step but that threw me off.

Hi Aaron, awesome awesome tutorial! Nice and simple for pea-brains like me! I'm brand new to digital art and am hoping I can give my comic pages some color. I'm trying to translate all this into Krita talk though! How was it you were able to fill in with color without covering your black lines? I've been following your tutorial but somehow my color keeps going over my lines. What step did I miss? I apologize for the amateur talk, I pretty 'puter stupid!

if you figured it out please do let me know!! i can't find any tutorial of colouring using Krita :/

Great video. Ending is somewhat misleading tho. There is a way to scan the painting from scanning it part by part but as said, it's easier to just take a picture.

This was soooo informational. My Fiance' just got into Charcol drawings. Will the charcoal ruin the scanner glass?
@aaronrutten4 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert in scanning charcoal drawings, but I would imagine that you could spray it fit a fixer that would minimize the amount of debris on the scanner, but it still wouldn't be worth the risk since tiny particles can easily be magnified. Taking a good quality photo of the work would probably be a better way to go.

Geesh, no wonder my drawings looked low quality. You need THAT much dpi for a good quality inked drawing!? Gonna have to delete my drawing files after I'm done with them. XD Also, saving as tiff from now on!

I hate that Photoshop has not made a Twain driver for CS5 , its just really p'd me off. I loved how I could scan my pages in photoshop , by opening the Canon Scanner and scanning in Photoshop.

Hi Aaron. I have never used Photo shop before. What is that pen tool that you are using video? This is something that can be purchased and used with touch screen computers in Photo Shop? I am paying a friend to illustrate a Children's book. She is excellent at sketching, but she has no experience with Photoshop to fill in the illustrations with color. Can you help please with info?
