This was so helpful, thank you! Been trying to figure out a process like this for ages on my budget of zero dollars, and this was great! I'm a mostly blind / paralyzed artist with chronic fatigue and aspirations of making a comic or something out of a ton of kitbashed 3D assets, and this is the exact sort of process I've been looking for to A) make that look like a comic and B) hide the crimes of inconsistent stock modeling / texture quality.

Hi, a not so good artist here, who fancied dipping his feet in the digital art world. So did a little research, and found Clip Paint Studio. Thought this would suit my needs. Not too expensive being the main one. After looking for tutorials of which there are a lot. None of them suited me. However after further research, I found Krita. Searching for tutorials, I found you. Clear, concise and pitched at my level. Cancelled Clip Paint Studio and subscribed to you. P.S. I am not trying to start a flame war between the two programs. Just what is best for me.

Thanks very much for this. I always suspected Krita could do this, but now I know! Just one question though. - why did we create the archives group? Couldn't we just create the pencil image with that group instead of duplicating it? Perhaps I'm missing something...?
@BladeandQuill3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam. Good question. It's a good habit to create archive groups when working digital just in case something goes wrong with your project. Rather to restart from zero, you restart from the point when you already did the tedious things... In this case, we didn't have much I know, but in some projects you could have 10 layers, or more, of hard base work (base paint, base line art, base effects).This saves you hours of work!!! Again, just a safety net. You don't have to do it if you don't want.

I just started and keep going back and forth in your tutorials! Your sound is pleasant and you explain all the steps well. Help! Then I want to color it simple, about like your bulldog. I know there are other ways like just with a brush. Can you please direct me on that too? Thank you SOOO very much Corinne!!

Hello Lora. When I say go back to the original layer, I meant to go back to the layer where you transformed the image using the Gaussian blur. The layer above is the layer where you had lines with a pencil. Regarding coloring, there is a faster way to color an image. I made a video a long time ago. I know it old, but it should help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4DSnKWZl6-mqqM Skip the beginning of the video and go to minute 1:05. I hope this helps.

@@BladeandQuill Oh thanks so much for responding! Another question please - On the bulldog video, when I did mine it turned out right but when I downloaded, the white was still there like a white page, not just the picture. So maybe I did'nt do it correctly. Wasn't it suppose to be just the picture with nothing surrounding it? Thanks so much for your time.

Hi Lora. I am so happy to help you. Today is your lucky day... I am not too busy at my full time job,. So, I am able to check my channel and respond to questions between tasks or at my lunch time. Answering your request: As you may already know, when we draw something in Krita, we never draw on the background layer. We create transparent layers on the top of the background and draw whatever we need to draw. If you want to save an image without the white background, first turn off the background layer. Then, when it is time to save your document, save it as a PNG file. DO NOT save it as a JPEG!!! Have a great day.

I am slightly confused at the end - sorry if I am being a little dense! You seem to have a 'pencil' drawing of the photograph, then a new layer with additional details drawn by yourself (2 layers). How do you save the end result as a finished article (e.g. Jpeg image). I am totally new to Krita and art/photo software. I have converted a photograph that I am using for a project thanks to your very clear, uncluttered explanations, but just stuck as to how to proceed to get the finished article. Can you advise please? Many thanks for the very clear video, I will be following and using your skills regularly.

Hello. I need to apologize for confusing you. My video editing is not very good. Answering your question. HOW TO SAVE YOUR WORK? Go to SAVE AS. Your computer will open a new window. This is your window explorer. At the bottom, type the name of your file in FILE NAME and then, using the drop-down menu of SAVE AS TYPE, choose the following: JPEG Image (*.jpg *.jpeg *.jpe). I hope this will help you. Have a great weekend and thank you for watching my tutorials.

@BladeandQuill2 жыл бұрын
Without knowing the details, I cannot really answer your question. Many factors could lead to this effect. For example, was the lighting in your original picture too bright or too dark. how come when I choose the color dodge, I don't get a plain white frame. it is color purple. I followed every step on point. Can you help me? Thank you!
@BladeandQuill11 ай бұрын
Hello. I tried to recreate your problem, but did not succeed. Therefore, I do not know how to help you. Doing some research on the matter, I found out that Krita's Color Dodge behavior can be affected by the bit depth of your document. If it's set to 16 or 32 bits, you might see more intense colors, including purple. The solution would be to create a new document with 8-bit depth and see if the issue persists. There are a few more Troubleshooting Steps I found. See below. Check Bit Depth: Go to "Image" > "Properties" go to the tab "Image Color Space" and ensure the bit depth is set to 8-bit Integer/channel. Use the drop down menu to change the settings if needed. Manage Color Profiles: Go to "Settings" > "Configure Krita" > "Color Management" and ensure profiles are consistent. Go to the tab "Soft Proofing" and make sure that the "DEPTH" says 8-bit integer/channel. Update Drivers: Update your graphics card drivers to the latest version. Test with Different Hardware: If possible, try using Krita on a different computer to rule out hardware issues. Report the Issue: If none of the above solutions work, consider reporting the issue to Krita developers. That's all I can do. I am sorry for not being much more help. Hopefully, you can find the solution to your problem. I would definitely contact Krita in the forum and ask them their opinion. Post your questions here: krita-artists.org/c/support/general-questions/26 Happy holidays and thank you for watching my little channel.

@BladeandQuill3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jumana. Is it possible that the performance of your computer is very low and cannot take Krita's functions. Do you have a powerful graphic card? If not, it may (and please understand that I am not a computer expert, so please forgive my ignorance on that subject) interfere with your Krita's functions. When I use the transform tool , It creates a slight blur. Not too big though to bother me. Go to Krita's SETTING tab, and choose CONFIGURE KRITA. Now, check the PERFORMANCE tab, below COLOR MANAGEMENT. See, if you can tweak the settings to make Krita less straining on your computer. That's all I can think of. I hope this helps a tiny bit. ☺❤

I am using, Krita 5, I do not have the color dodge option, is there another way to create a color dodge effect.
@BladeandQuill2 жыл бұрын
Hello Sydney. The blending mode " _COLOR DODGE_ " is located inside the layer's docker. When you look at your layer's docker, you will see first (obviously) your layers, then, above you will see the _OPACITY_ slider, and then above you will see the drop-down menu with all the blending modes. " _NORMAL_ " is the default one. If you open the drop-down menu, the _COLOR DODGE_ is located between the blending mode " _Color_ " and the blending mode " _Darken_ ". Now... if for some reason the blending mode _COLOR DODGE_ is missing from the list, we have a problem. This is not normal. It should be there!!! Please try first to uninstall your Krita and reinstall it. Then, if the problem persists, make sure to contact Krita and tell them about this matter. krita-artists.org/c/support/general-questions/26 To ask a question, click on the button: *+ New Topic* I hope this helps. Sorry, that I cannot do more. Good luck.

@BladeandQuill2 жыл бұрын
Hello. Are your images maybe originally small? If your images are very small, you should be able to resize them in Krita. Usually, to resize an image, I go to IMAGE, and then I use the SCALE TO NEW SIZE option. Make sure that the box of CONSTRAIN PROPORTION is checked. Another free application called Gimp can help you resize your images without losing quality. To resize an image with Gimp, simply open your image in the application. Go to Image, then Scale. Type the desired new dimensions. Finally, under QUALITY, choose SINC AS INTERPOLATION. You are done... click SCALE. I hope this helped... Have a great day.

If you remove a layer by accident, this will happen. Let me explain. You start by importing your picture = layer 1. Let's not count the background layer, shall we? You duplicate your picture and desaturate it = layer 2 You duplicate your desaturated layer and invert it (CTRL + I) and set the blending mode to Color Dodge = layer 3 If you remove by accident layer 2 (the desaturated one) or turned off that layer, suddenly your top layer will become red, orange and yellow.

but, would that be called as pure art? i mean we have traced the image. didn't we??

It is a method for people to have fun and do at home. I do not believe artists would use this method to sell art. Think of people who always wanted to have a sketch of their favorite pet, or maybe a sketch of a child, friend etc... but they cannot draw. This is when the method is awesome for them. It answers their goal.

@@BladeandQuill aweee! What a good reply. I was also thinking the same. Yeah definitely and what about brushes mam. I mean if we make our custom brushes using png images( tree brushes for example) Will that too be counted as pure art?
