She's a master of the false chord technique, so there's no damage to her voice at all (as her effortless switching indicates). Seeing people react to that first scream will never get old.

Thematically, Tatiana uses her growls to express anger, pain, or frustration. This song is about her through the lens of her Pisces astrology sign and the duality it represents - the cleans are depression and loneliness, but also fear of intimacy, while the growls are pain, anger, and maybe self-destructive urges. Part of what I appreciate about them is that I see a lot of female singers romanticize hurt and anger, while ignoring the reality, and I've seen in women I've dated a confusion about their negative emotions that I don't feel like guys have because our culture is so much more comfortable in portraying those negative emotions in men while glossing over those feelings in women. I'd add that the technique doesn't use the vocal cords, but rather the false cords (technically, vestibular folds) above the vocal cords, learning to control the shape of the throat to catch those tissues in the airflow through the throat so they produce sound and then shape that sound into words. Tati has been growling for about a decade and a half, and over a decade in performances. They did 152 shows last year alone. There are a few ways one can go from here. Bad Water is a lighter song of theirs with no growls, and there is an official live version, about pollution with some of her most complex lyrics. Tatiana also sings in a cover of Alice In Chains' song Man In The Box, by her bf's band Suicide Silence. Perennial live at Wacken is usually the next step I'd suggest for someone who is open to the growls but on the fence, it is another like Pisces that is more personal to Tatiana being about the changing of the seasons and how her chronic depression gets worse in the winter as she feels nature die around her. A bit of a harder song that really shows how she uses her growls thematically is No Hoard Of Value which is a lyrics video for a song about the plight of coal miners in the mining and industrial region of Ukraine that they are from - the Donbass, or Donets Basin (they were forced to leave their homes by the war in that region in order to be able to continue their music careers because the battle lines would have stopped them touring). Their newest video released a couple of weeks ago is a concert video of one of their most popular songs Teacher Teacher live from Melbourne. Anyway, fun reaction - subbed. Looking forward to more. Cheers!

Brett is right, the growls are all technique. She's been at this for over 10 years now and she's just gotten better. Tatiana is fast becoming THE metal queen, and her bandmates are all stellar musicians. This will bring views with the meteoric rise Jinjer is going through right now. One of the last concerts they did just as the pandemic started was in Melbourne, and they are turning that in to a live album/video set slated for release soon. It will be a great source for live reactions for any of the slew of requests you will be getting once the Jinjer army lands here.

Like a fan brother says (Tom Clark) in another reaction of the same song I quote him: "If you were a selfless fish (Pisces) who wanted to see the world but was a bit skittish, and then got into the nets and was hooked by handsome butchers who proceed to rip away your scales and entrails (emeralds)... you'd growl too! So you see, sometimes the lyrics call for extreme vocals in a song. Tatiana (who's not singing as someone possessed, so you can toss the garlic back into the spaghetti sauce) wrote an incredible story and sang about it the way it deserved to be sung... as with most of her songs. Some vocalist just keep singing in their nice and charming way even when they are in desperate situations. Not so with Tati. Her extreme expression - a rare ability - adds so much more to a song... especially if you follow the music with the lyrics and how the beautiful cacophony tells the story." is the best short explanation to understand why Tatniana (Vocals) choose to switch in between voices like in this song. Go to Perennial Live at Wacken 2019 to see her at a Live Concert with no additions to her voice (except by little reverb and a varitone doubler at not least for 10 seconds)

This song must have been the most surprised I got in the 50 years I really listen to music (which started in 1970 when I heard Deep Purple's "Child In Time" on the radio at nine years of age). Can't say I dislike it. Also can't say I like it. I prefer 'clean' vocals with the exception of a couple of bands like Dark Tranquillity, Machine Head, Eluveitie and some-such. Good to see Bianca has recovered enough to be planted on a sturdy church chair...

I read the comments and see that many people regret that Tatiana did not use only her clean vocals and did not join the ranks of thousands of mainstream singers for average laymen .She wrote this song for reason, she is Pisces ." Pisces swimming through the river all their life against the stream". She chose her own path and follows it ,ignoring haters and critics , just sometimes tough upon this theme in her lyrics :"Judgment & punishment ","Hypocrites and Critics ". She has enough fans , who can appreciate her talents : vocal ,songwriting , stage presence .Diversity is a great thing, that gives you an opportunity to choose what you like .If you don't like any kind of music ,just choose another .Tatiana likes different music of completely different genres, and this affects her own music ,we hear this influence in her songs. This band stands out for it's diversity and versatility : dual vocal ( clean and extreme, with only vocalist), mixing styles and genres ,breakdowns ,tempo changes ,and so on .As for this song ,I think it's great lyrically ,musically ,and this contrast of double vocals fits perfectly into its meaning .

Here is a sample song called "Survive" It is their closing song for a presentation that they did at a TEDx Conference for the University of Nevada in the U.S. back in 2017 - link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2eVhImsgdxsfKs. Back then, the guitarist Daniella Villarreal was 16; the drummer Paulina Villarreal was 14; and the bass player Alejandra Villarreal was 11. For a small and young band they have incredible sound, full of energy, attitude and passion. I think that you will enjoy them!! 👌👍🤘✊ PS: Paulina is a beast on the drums and has been known to shatter her sticks during live shows. She does it again here but never misses a beat! - Wil.

Klaus Hipp I used to dislike the growling/ heavy vocals until 5 years ago,,, now is the most amazing thing to listen to. I appreciate clean voices and good composition/musicianship as well. The thing with the heavy vocals is to bring more power or emotion to transmit the message of the lyrics. But is understandable that most people outside of the metal community would not enjoy such vocals.

I never liked growls until I discovered Jinjer, by anyone male or female. An ex used to listen to a lot of Adele, and I found it remarkable that Adele usually sings about anger and hurt, but she romanticizes that pain and makes it sound beautiful. But I guarantee you when Adele has a fight with her bf she doesn't _really_ say "I set fiiiii-ire to the raaaaaain!!!" And when we are talking about the stuff Tatiana sings about, the fury she brings to the performance is very appropriate indeed. This is one of their lighter songs, talking about her inner turmoil, but most of their songs are about environmental destruction, being refugees from the war in eastern Ukraine, and things of that nature.

crikeyhunter8879 the band plays a blend of Progressive Metal with a lot of influences from other types of music such as rock, jazz and even reggae. The technique she’s using is fry scream, growling

Tracy Collier music is just subjective, a lot of people just enjoy regular singers, other prefer this kind of metal with awesome lyrics and powerful vocals. I use to like only Mariah Carey in my 20s now I just listen to the heaviest of death metal, 48 yo guy here.
