you need to talk about how while he is wedded to the idea of justice, he also wants to explore the possibility of shylock showing mercy to antonio ... so looks for some kind of settlement. Two, by the manner in which he speaks of shylock before he enters the court shows that he is biased towards antonio (calls shylock a ``stony adversary'' and more) ... three, when shylock tells him that the reputation of venice will be at risk if he does not render justice, he ensures that the court goes through a proper trial with portia as the doctor of civil law ... Finally, he shows mercy on shylock as well after the sentence has been pronounced ... Mention all points with quotes from the text
